I have been asked several times about my position on this Bill , here it is.
Protecting Uganda's sovereignty is a legitimate goal and the country deserves a robust discourse on it. However, good law demands precision, foresight, and due process. In its current form, this Bill falls short on all three. It contains vague provisions, undefined concepts on critical matters, and unchecked ministerial discretion. It also largely ignores the socioeconomic fallout for diaspora families, investors, NGOs, FBOs, research institutions, and the many others who interact with the global financial network.
The Bill must either be thoroughly revised or given ample time for meaningful consultations . with a view to producing a better law, or reinforcing existing ones, to achieve the stated objective.

Has the @URAuganda appeared before the Defense and Internal Affairs and the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee to present their views on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, or are they not interested?

In a taxi today, I almost gave an older man marriage advice then I realized he was talking to himself.
He was giving himself problems & solutions- a full board meeting with himself.
Apparently, he married for "cold weather." But now the same lovely wife runs a strict "No-Entry-After-Dark" policy. My guy gets locked out of his own house more often than not, even the mosquitoes know him by name; and him, he knows their types by appoggiatura.
He's there murmuring like a low-budget podcast: "I provide everything in that home' yet my wife told me I’m as useful as the nipples on a man.”
I was planning to interfere until he exclaimed loudly; “Obufumbo! Atanawasa lindako.” On hearing this, the garrulous me turned the other side to mind my business 🙌

Tourism Guru @wekesa_amos fears that if parliament passes the Protection of Sovereignty bill in it's current form, the tourism sector will be most hit.
"There are international hotels and businesses seeking to set up shop in Uganda. What do you think they are thinking now? The Sovereignty bill will kill international trade" he adds.

BoU Governor (Economics PhD, Liverpool): Sovereignty Bill will affect our reserves, and lead to significant currency depreciation. A country without reserves isn’t sovereign. I see the NRM has deployed @job_matua & @TumukundeTT—who are economically illiterate—to defend the Bill.

"Chairman, a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” Governor Atingi-Ego on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in an appearance before Parliament today.
