Syria is under control of a group of jihadists/terrorists who mostly have blood on their hands and have committed genocide, including participation in enslavement of 7000 Yazidi women and children and hundreds of women of other minorities.

Stunned that US sanctioned Abu Hatem Shaqra (Ahmad al-Hayes) spoke at "victory" event today electing Ahmed al-Sharaa President of Syria. Shaqra was sanctioned for crimes including "trafficking of Yazidi women & children" & his SNA militia Ahrar al-Sharqiya for Hevrin Khalaf's brutal murder during the 2019 Turkish invasion. We are all rooting for Syria to succeed but that can only happen by including the rich diversity of all religious & ethnic communities in the country. home.treasury.gov/news/press-rel…

The Iraqi Parliament recently passed a controversial package of legislation that could grant amnesty to thousands of imprisoned ISIS members and legalize the marriage of girls as young as nine. I urge @antonioguterres, @UnitedNations, @secrubio, and @StateDept to strongly condemn this dangerous legislation. Survivors of genocide & sexual violence have called on the President of Iraq @IraqiPresidency to reject and refuse to sign this law. Read more: nadia.la/40QGVWU

This Yazidi child was taken into captivity by ISIS in 2014. After the collapse of the caliphate in Iraq and Syria, ISIS transferred her to captivity in Gaza. She is not the only one being held in Gaza by ISIS. For the past ten years, the Iraqi authorities and the international community have failed to rescue Yazidi women and girls from captivity in Gaza, Syria, and other parts of the region.

Ten years ago today, my mother was on one of the last trucks when ISIS took all the women of Kocho into captivity. I'll never forget how she looked. The wind had pushed her white headscarf back on her head, and her dark hair, normally parted neatly down the middle, was wild and messy, her scarf covering only her mouth and her nose. Her white clothes were dusty, and she stumbled when she was pulled down to the ground. "Get going," a militant yelled at her, pushing her toward the garden, laughing at her and other older women who couldn't move quickly. She came through the gates and walked toward us in a trance. Without saying a single word, she sat down and rested her head on my lap. My mother never lay down in front of men. It was late, and we were exhausted. My mother's head still rested on my lap. She hadn't said anything since she arrived, but her eyes were open and she wasn't sleeping. I assumed we would spend the night crammed together in the institute, and I wondered if I would be able to sleep at all. I thought about asking my mother what she was thinking, but it was too hard to talk. I wish I had said something. #Kocho #YazidiGenocide

Tomorrow marks the seventeenth anniversary of the massacres in Tal Azir and Siba Sheikh Khidr, where hundreds of Yazidi men, women, and children were brutally killed by the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.
These repeated crimes of massacres, genocides, and the current hate speech all originate from the same source: extremists who misuse religion to achieve political interests, exploiting the Islamic faith to impose control and gain power.
RIP to all victims, and shame and disgrace to the criminals from Al-Qaeda, Al-Nusra, ISIS, and those who incite the persecution of Yazidis today, wherever they may be. They all suffer from the same disease and share the same criminal mindset.
