Yesterday our very own Jimmy Quinn retired. Jimmy served in controls but it was as a union rep that he excelled. The FBU members in NI will forever be in debt to Jimmy for all the selfless work he did, he was always available for advice and guidance. Thank you Jimmy.

England remains the only UK nation without a statutory duty for fire services to respond to flooding. Northern Ireland’s investment in training and facilities shows what’s possible. The need for the same duty and support in England is needed.

FBU annual conference has a message for the government: fund our fire service. We need urgent investment to keep the public safe. But this year we got another real terms funding cut. It's time to reverse austerity.

Today at 18:39, exactly one week on from the time of call, FBU annual conference took part in a nationwide minute of silence to honur the sacrifice of Jennie Logan and Martyn Sadler, who lost their lives in the line of duty on Thursday 15 May. We also remembered David Chester, a member of public who died in the same incident. And our thoughts are with the two firefighters who remain in hospital.

Two firefighters and one member of the public have been confirmed dead following a fire incident at Bicester, Oxfordshire. This is terrible news. Our thoughts are with their families, friends and colleagues. The FBU will be on hand to provide support in the coming days.
