Today on the sidelines of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, we convened a powerful side event: “New Approaches for a Renewed International Cooperation: Coalition of the Willing on Beyond GDP.” 🌍📊 With inspiring opening remarks by H.E. @nardosbthomas, our CEO, this gathering marked more than just a panel—it was a call to rethink the very foundations of development cooperation. “The Beyond GDP agenda does not reject what came before—it challenges us to build forward with courage and humility, toward a people-centred, equitable, and sustainable understanding of progress.” Why Beyond GDP? Because GDP alone cannot measure the resilience of African communities, the strength of our informal economies, the wisdom of our indigenous knowledge, or the power of our social cohesion. For too long, GDP has ignored the true engines of African progress. This moment in Sevilla reaffirmed Africa’s leadership in shaping a new global development narrative—one rooted in dignity, inclusion, and lived realities. 🇧🇼 Botswana is piloting the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) 🇿🇦 South Africa tracks multidimensional development through its NDP 2030 🇷🇼 Rwanda’s Imihigo contracts put citizen accountability at the center 🇳🇬 Nigeria incorporates multidimensional poverty into national planning 🇲🇺 Mauritius leads with social protection and STI-driven metrics 📊 Across the continent, Agenda 2063, the AfDB’s African Economic Outlook, and Afrobarometer’s citizen data are already shaping a future that measures what truly matters. But challenges remain: data gaps, under-resourced statistical systems, and inherited planning models continue to hold us back. Still, the Beyond GDP agenda is not about rejection—it’s about redefinition. As H.E. Bekele-Thomas declared: “Africa is not here to ask for permission—we are here to co-create. To shape a new consensus that reflects the Africa we seek to build: one of dignity, equity, sustainability, and shared resilience.” The newly launched Coalition of the Willing and the Sevilla Call to Action are just the beginning. We stands ready—with ideas, with partnerships, and with purpose. #BeyondGDP #DevelopmentRedefined #Sevilla2025 #Agenda2063 #AUDA_NEPAD #GlobalPartnerships #HumanCenteredDevelopment #AfricanLeadership #CoalitionOfTheWilling #FinancingForDevelopment #DataForDevelopment #NewMetricsNewMindsets @SymerreGrey

Deputy Minister @SeisoMohai opens Day 2 of the G20 Development Working Group Meeting with a powerful call for unity, urgency, and meaningful action. Framing today’s dialogue as a catalyst for measurable change, he reminds delegates that adversity can be overcome through collective vision - just as symbolised by the recent visit to Robben Island. #G20DWG
