Under the cover of promoting political Islam, Erdogan is advancing a policy of Turkish imperialism aimed at reviving the Ottoman Sultanate. Brotherhood organizations embrace this vision, seeing it as consistent with the idea of Jerusalem becoming a Turkish province, explains @hahussain: fdd.org/analysis/2026/…

Recent sanctions and strikes have strengthened Washington’s position, but they will not produce durable negotiating leverage if confined to retaliation for attacks in the strait, writes @maxmeizlish: fdd.org/analysis/2026/…

Watching the EU's 21st sanctions package flop today, it seems more important than ever to press for stronger, more coordinated pressure on Russia. And to note the importance of coordinating kinetic and economic statecraft
FDD’s Center on Economic & Financial Power (CEFP)@FDD_CEFP

⛽ Russia is running out of gas. It's the world's third largest oil producer and second largest exporter, but it can't keep its own gasoline pumps stocked. @angela__howard emphasizes why it is vital that the US compound economic pressure on Russia 👇 Learn more here: bit.ly/451Kk6b

For Washington, the stakes extend beyond South Ossetia or Georgia. If Moscow can quietly absorb the region, it reinforces a broader lesson Russia has been testing: borders can still be redrawn by force, occupation, and coerced dependency, writes FDD's Keti Korkiya. nationalinterest.org/blog/silk-road…

It may seem counterintuitive, but the U.S. is now in a better negotiating position than it was during the so-called ceasefire. In the last week, we've seen the U.S. 1) revoke a broad-sweeping license providing sanctions relief to Iran, 2) sanction a key Iranian financier, several opaque Iranian exchange houses, and front companies in the UAE and Hong Kong, 3) strike at hundreds of Iranian military targets, and 4) announce the reimposition of the blockade on Iranian ports. Whatever remains of the MOU, negotiations now continue amid active hostilities, giving Washington greater leverage to raise the costs of Iranian intransigence. fdd.org/analysis/2026/…
