Families & Friends for Drug Law Reform believes prohibition laws are more the problem than the solution. It seeks alternative laws that minimise the harms.

This is so painful especially after 30 years of advocating for drug law reform and harm reduction. What a pity heroin on prescription wasn’t agreed to back in 1997. It would have reduced the reliance on the black market that kills.

Our Policy & Engagement manager, Robert Taylor, spoke to @7NewsMelbourneabout the alarming increase in synthetic opioids. The @VicGovDH issued a drug alert for a white powder posing as cocaine, which contains a dangerous substance, protonitazene: health.vic.gov.au/drug-alerts/co…

Is this the optimal way of allocating Australian government spending in response to illicit drugs? Don’t think so somehow. Very low return on investment from 64% allocated to law enforcement. Much higher ROI from treatment & pittance invested in harm reduction @harmreductionau

And how would it be now if the well researched and well modeled ‘heroin trial’ under the renowned leadership of Gabriele Bammer had not been quashed by PM Howard in 1997? How will we know I guess. @ACTINOSProject

Just imagine what harm reduction would achieve in Australia & elsewhere if didn’t have to waste so much time & energy fighting for interventions & instead could deploy that energy starting & expanding interventions! @harmreductionau @weareuniting @FFDLR

From an organisation that has advocated for the past almost 30 years for drug law reform to save our family members from unjust, badly conceived drug policies this response from Qld opposition is so so frustrating. Thanks @ACTINOSProject

I’m sitting on a plane, on the way back to Canberra, from implementing QLDs first #pilltesting trial at #RabbitsEatLettuce. So I have some time to address this nonsense. Let’s have at it. theguardian.com/australia-news…

As only arguments available to prohibitionists are pathetically weak, inevitably rely heavily on fear n smear

@AlexWodak Sorry Alex, I missed the fight bit just frustrated with fear media that runs the show and holds up reform

Advocating for faster & more sustainable drug law reform >35 years in Australia & internationally. Reformers achieve more IMHO by working together than by picking fights over non existent differences
FFDLR@FFDLR

Come on @AlexWodak change has been far too slow. Political parties are far too easily intimidated with the fear tactics of the press when they could be preserving and improving lives. Australia should do much better. Well done @greencate and @weareuniting.

Based on principle 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing, drug law reform supporters IMHO should accept incremental gains while continuing to advocate for more substantial reforms @weareuniting @harmreductionau @FirstSteptweets @Unharmdotorg
