@drkalin_md @NickTroiano Same happened in Florida a couple of years ago. The "election integrity" bill had an amendment slipped in at the last minute banning RCV. 😡

@NickTroiano MO amendment 7 passed. In the first paragraph, "Make the constitution consistent with state law by only allowing citizens of the United States to vote." Which, in the second paragraph, banned RCV. A real WTF moment.

A few years ago, many democracy advocates -- including dozens of political scientists -- called on Congress to pass the "HR1" voting bill, even if it required removing the filibuster and passing it on a party-line vote. Many argued that, without HR1, states would pass all kinds of voter suppression bills that would undermine free & fair elections and literally usher in an era of permanent minority rule. The political scientists wrote it was "A Do or Die Moment For American Democracy" arguing: "The Republican Party’s attacks on voting rights weaken democracy for all Americans, but they disproportionately burden communities of color, the poor, young people, and less frequent voters. This is by design: the purpose of these laws is to ensure that Republican-leaning voters constitute a majority of votes cast, even if they are a minority of the electorate." In addition, they went out of their way to explicitly oppose voter identification requirements. Under incredibly intense pressure, Senators Sinema and Manchin refused the nuclear option, and the bill failed. So, I'm checking back on this now and am genuinely curious: 1. In the last two elections, what evidence is there that state laws passed since 2020 have actually suppressed turnout? 2. Given electoral outcomes in 2024, would advocates still push for blowing up the filibuster to pass party-line changes to the way we vote? In the aftermath of this recent election, I hope this too benefits from some serious reflection and rethinking...

@NickTroiano AK had proven the case, and Final 4 Voting is on the verge of being repealed. The Trump wave and Republicans' opposition to RCV torpedoed our efforts this year. Democrats killed our initiative for top-two primaries in 2020. These initiatives went down in general elections.
