Joe Burrow's PFF passing grade rankings without play-action 2025 - 1st 2024 - 1st 2023 - 17th (calf injury) 2022 - 1st 2021 - 1st Don't let people tell you that he needs to get under-center to be more successful. Other QBs need to get under-center to get close to his production.

@0oWatches People do these all the time. Show me one example of a 2020 draft redo where Burrow doesn’t go #1 that’s not made by a chargers fan…. Impossible

@CjMontagano @chillchamp78 @cjpressey If you watched either of these games you would see a QB getting completely enveloped by the pass rush on every drop back yet still finding a way to drop dimes while getting crushed. I’ve never seen any other QB do this to such an extent. At least no one currently playing

@PHWB_4700 Burrow is average at everything and great at nothing. Bengals fans try so hard to put him in the elite tier. He’s a slightly improved version of Kirk Cousins with a little more swag.

@CjMontagano @cjpressey Not true. There are levels to being bad on the Oline. If you think Lamar’s Oline has been bad, you have no idea how much worse the Bengals have been up front over that same span

@FLASHGLADDING @cjpressey Any game that lamar had elite numbers in since the 2020 season lamar did so with an oline equivalent to have highschoolers blocking

You can even see the little hesitation if you pay attention. It’s funny cause yall thought you were dunking here but in reality you were just shining light on the difference between Burrow and Lamar as passers. One hesitates and has to see the play develop. One anticipates it and throws the ball on time. Yes Lamar is still elite

@bigbottleboy13 @ChocoIateDaddy @ColeJacksonFB Holy projection. I think Lamar is amazing, elite, whatever word you want to use. I’m simply saying this throw right here was late, and in no way the same throw as Burrow’s

@ChocoIateDaddy @ColeJacksonFB The throw was late. That’s the point. It should have been a gimme TD to a wide open player but was turned into a jump ball because it was late.

@FLASHGLADDING @ColeJacksonFB The coverage didn’t “almost get there” any more than they did on Burrows throw. Of course Andrews is going to look more open on the broadcast angle than Chase does on the angle from behind the qb

@Cincy_Suave2 @zimwhodey Nice job laying out the facts but it's wasted energy. If Chargers fans really believed Herbert was better they'd spend their time thanking the Bengals for choosing Burrow over him instead of trying to tell us that Herbert is the better QB.

Bengals fans aren’t stupid. We know what poor QB play looks like. We damn sure know what mediocre QB play looks like(Dalton decade) There is a reason why we pound the table for Burrow. When watched every snap of his career we RARELY are mad or cursing Burrow for bad plays/decisions in games. He RARELY doesn’t make the right play or move. Watching the games of Burrow’s career can be summarized as. 1. Getting 2 yards on first down runs(if we’re lucky) 2. Burrow running for his absolute life on nearly every drop back because the defense knows what’s coming 3. Burrow somehow being amazing anyway outside of some early season rust. This idea that Burrow is constantly trying to do too much or is causing sacks often that kill their offense isn’t true when watching the games. He has made some mistakes the last two years that we didn’t see earlier on but I completely believe that’s because he knows if we punt we lose. That’s how it’s been the last two seasons.

But he does Burrow is one of the fastest time to throw players in the league and has been for his entire career. Manning nor Brady ever played with an Oline this bad. Full stop. End of story. Show me a season when Brady or Manning played behind the worst Oline in football. I’m talking pass block win rate not sacks. Sacks are not purely a QB stat and sometimes you have to play a style of QB that lends itself to you getting sacked to give your team a chance. The Bengals threaten no one up front. Manning and Brady usually had well balanced offenses(especially Brady) that ran the ball and used play action to keep defenses and pass rushes honest. Burrow has not had that luxury. Also yes the Bengals D wasn’t terrible in 2021 and 2022 but it wasn’t great either. He also went to SB and AFCCG in those seasons….

Counter point You don’t have to be athletic to extend plays IN THE pocket if you think Burrow did that better than Peyton and Brady than you aren’t evaluating pocket management the right way Joe was more athletic however Tom and Peyton didn’t need to be more athletic to extend plays in the pocket better than Burrow Peyton and Brady ability to navigate in the pocket shift a single step to the left or right or slide up perfectly into the pocket to avoid edge rushers was much more superior than how Burrow maneuvers in a collapse pocket Brady and Peyton mobility was almost entirely localized to within 5 yards but that’s all they needed, they had better feel, vision and space recognition than Burrow Neither could outrun a Nosetackle in a straight-line. However their ability to move around in a 6x6 box was better than Joes, they master playing in the pocket, no one navigated in the pocket better they didn’t have to extend plays when they had the answers to the test in the pocket and the feel In the pocket to not get touched , post and pre snap processing they were better than Joe Another Counterpoint Joe made his run games and lines worse for the simple fact he isn’t comfortable playing under center, playing in play action and prefers playing in empty sets leaving his guys on island His offenses are much more predicable for the simple fact he handcuffs playbooks because of this Everything was available and open to Peyton and Tom , not a formation , nor set , nor throw they weren’t comfortable doing or making Tom Brady engineered a team that had 589 total points of offense that averaged 36.8 points per game in 2007 , he engineered 4 more offenses that scored 500 points giving him 5 of the 25 highest scoring offenses in history Peyton Manning engineered a offense that scored 606 points , that avg 37.9 ppg in 2013 he engineered another offense in 2004 that scored 500 plus points , he had 49 and 55 TDs in both seasons Burrow highest scoring offense was 472 points in 2024 they avg 27 ppg that wasn’t even good enough for a top 5 finish , most TDs he’s ever had is 43 We aren’t going to act like the 3 are on equal footing No sir
Flash@FLASHGLADDING

Counterpoint: Bengals have had a bottom 5 Oline for the entire Burrow era. Burrow is much more of a playmaker than Manning and Brady and doesn’t give up on plays as quickly. That paired with a terrible Oline, terrible defense, and bad running game forces Burrow to play more recklessly. Brady could punt drives and still win games because for most of his career he had a great defense playing with him. Part of what makes Burrow special is his pocket ability paired with processing speed combined with playmaking. Brady and Manning had the other traits and were slightly better pocket passers but could never extend plays like Burrow can.
