Worth remembering that child labour was only specifically outlawed in South Africa in 1998 through the BCEA. That is how recent some of our democratic gains are. We have come from far!!

The locals were frustrated that Amahlubi were doing well for themselves, and were interested in being cheap labour which became on of many reasons why the Hlubi were desimated

One of my Politics modules actually went into detail about how this theory came to life. It’s something that was done by the colonial government. SAns would unionise and strike but non South Africans wouldn’t so they’d hire them in large numbers because SAns are “lazy” .

My younger brother haven’t been paid a salary for two years now because of this ,he’s a qualified brilliant civil engineer,the company he works for keep getting threats whenever they get a project because inkabi always wants to come and collect protection fee and they’d sometimes end up losing projects, he’s been applying for work but with no luck . The reality in SA , not connection no bread for you .
