PRESS RELEASE The Ophthalmology Society of Uganda has become aware of this video currently circulating on social media in which an individual claims that massaging the eyes with hot water ( better at boiling point) can cure cataracts, refractive errors and other eye diseases. We write with the utmost urgency to inform the Ugandan public that this claim is medically false. The individual in the video presents this practice as a remedy with no scientific evidence whatsoever. We strongly advise against applying any unprescribed substances in the absence of guidance from a qualified ophthalmic health worker. Self-treatment of eye conditions based on social media advice is always dangerous.
