@FNbunchonumbers @wobbuuu Not having a distinct romanization for を makes it impossible to definitely know how to spell some words. How do you write Kaoru in Japanese? カオル?カヲル? It introduces unnecessary confusion.

@PandaKingEX That’s like saying people already beat ff16 by button mashing. Playing with the e33 system itself is the fun. Theorycrafting and building trying to win faster and faster or do more damage in one hit is fun. "Winning" is the floor not the ceiling.

@FNbunchonumbers or with only using parry, both extremes of the combat system have already been explored. In a game like FFXVI for example every year players are discovering new ways to play, score, new strategies and potential and this is because the game doesn’t have an easily defined ceiling.

The game can be summed up in one question. Did you parry? Hopefully the next game they make doesn’t have an over centralized mechanic so that people have long term elements to discuss besides git gud at parry.

@Glenn_Jones_ @Kesswylie I only have rhystic in 1 of my 8 decks b3 and 4 and it’s played against me all the time. Pay 1 or draw is really not some horrible hellish unbearable situation. It’s just like any other trigger mechanic. And giving you a choice sometimes even leads to interesting situations.

@FNbunchonumbers @Kesswylie Correct; the biggest problems come from the sum of the gameplay, not just the balance. However, the card being so strong contributes by making it a lot more common.

Maybe a hot take: But if you can have sub formats created by the game changers list in brackets 2,3,4. You can create an inverse game changers list of cards banned exclusively in bracket 5 And the world would handle it absolutely fine.

@FNbunchonumbers @Kesswylie Respectfully, you’re not understanding the issues. Those cards are very different from one another, and even more different from Rhystic Study. Neither interrupt ~every turn or multiplicatively build strength from your opponents taking the most basic game actions.

For some reason the talking point of legendaries needing to be one of a kind keeps coming up so here is as definitive of a list as I could possibly make showing how many of each legendary there is based mainly on the games and anime Some stuff needs explaining so here we go

@inkfycreates Obviously financials aside, when it comes to making games I don’t think the end goal should be to get the most number of fans for your series. The people making the games are trying to make their vision reality and create a certain experience.

This is exactly why games shouldn't take 10 years to make. Lol You miss out on an entire generation of potential lifelong fans. The reason younger fans are dropping from DQ/FF is due to this. They take too long to come out!

I can't begin to tell you how much ground Final Fantasy lost with the 15-24yr olds once Persona 5 dropped. 10 years of Persona 5 captured that age group and when Persona 6 drops, it will be apocalyptic for FF. And they know it.

@Kesswylie While technically true, a major aspiration of the system is to avoid the excess burden that such specialization necessarily creates. Just killing a shitty card is way better, there are sooooo many more fun cards to enjoy.

Rhystic Study exhaustion is why I took a break from this format. Rhystic Study exhaustion is why I burnt out after coming back. There is no worse play pattern I’ve experienced in any competitive game. Defenders of Rhystic Study in the format have no clue what they’re talking about. The only reason it’s not banned is the Commander Format Panel doesn’t want to ban an expensive card.

@westerosilass @apaullling I never thought blood magic would last generations. I just assumed for the new targaryens like Danny it was partly coincidence partly self fulfilling prophecy.

@apaullling what i've always assumed was that valyrian blood magic enhanced their bond with dragons, making them more likely to accept targ riders, but nettles almost certainly shows that bonding with a dragon is possible (if more difficult) for anyone with enough patience and cleverness

a lot of you treat the whole “you need valyrian blood to ride a dragon” thing as something that will cause you physical harm if untrue and not a piece of fictional science to discuss

@azulaservant I never thought about that but I think even though Azula could lightning bend and had more talent ozai was probably the bigger threat/had more experience. But he had the benefit of age, 14yo ozai would get destroyed by azula i bet.

@PandaKingEX Numbers go up is a consequence (not a goal) of "raising" rpgs like pokemon and its not necessarily a bad thing. Seems like you’re trying to say if you like that genre you’re simple. It’s not bad design to make you objectively stronger for training.

People interpreting RPGs as just seeing numbers go up rather than the actual utilization of mechanics and RPG systems is the worst mindset for the genre.

@Scratch_Point_Z I think a lot of people mistake the attempt to convey the intent of the work gets misinterpreted by people who think literal translation is the only thing acceptable. Aside from "jelly donuts", most of the translation industry is respecting the original intent.

Japanese media (generally) gets one shot at being translated into English in any official capacity, thus it should adhere to the original work as faithfully as possible to accurately reflect the creator's intent. All voices are not important, especially those who would see that replaced with goofy memes, jokes, character changes, politics, & dialogue not present in the Japanese version. Localization treats Japanese media as something that needs to be edited for a Western audience or else it won't sell, but this completely ignores the reality that Japanese media became beloved because it offers something unique compared to other media. Changing Japanese media to chase a "wide audience" only serves to repel those who love it for what it is in favor of a potential audience that is only interested in mindless, throw-away consumption. There is no sales risk in providing a faithful translation, this is based on a perpetual myth that Western audiences simply "can't handle" anything outside of their cultural expectations, which is false. And those who do expect it to change on their behalf are not & should never be thought of as the audience; it's not for them. The quality of Japanese media should be able to speak for itself.

Elden Ring should have had limited fast travel, less sites of grace and pushed the player to actively think about where they are exploring without the ability to warp out of a dangerous place instantly.
