We have a big problem !!!! Restore will be putting in a candidate to stand in the Makerfield by-election Reform will be putting in a candidate to stand in the Makerfield by-election This will split the votes This will result in Andy Burnham winning. Some serious thought needs to go into this in order to get these charlatans out of office.

@nickycash @russellquirk Nope, I was abroad and with 9 years experience would not need to attend an opening 'how-to' meeting. I have complained to standards as Mr Quirk has broken several rules here.

I’m 64yrs old & have never known in my lifetime a government that hates their own country & their own people like this Labour Government does. It’s pretty scary what they are doing to their own country & their own people. Evil doesn’t come close enough. These disgusting people should be in prison not in government.

How dare Keir Starmer brand British patriots as thugs and fascists for standing up for their country, when he has spent his time in office doing anything but.

I’m sat in my first Essex County Council meeting on Monday morning, listening to a councillor induction presentation. ‘Any questions?’ asks an officer. A hand goes up. ‘Yes’ says a recently elected Labour member. ‘Do I get a pension as a councillor?’. His first question was about how much money he gets. Not procedure, or meeting dates or where the loos are… but how much cash he can grab. Same old Labour.

@jonsopel I think you’ve misread the anger about this. It doesn’t matter the plan was executed like a police academy caper. It’s the fact it was so brazen like they didn’t care about getting caught. They should be chucked out and be made an example of.

Is the outrage over Spygate understandable? An act of crass stupidity, I’ll grant you. But this is less Philby and Burgess and more Laurel and Hardy. Some hapless intern is sent to film from 400M on his smart phone the Middlesbrough team kicking footballs. What searing insights would the Southampton side have got? ‘Ok boss they’re kicking the ball with both their left and right feet. Sometimes they’re heading it.’ It’s all so silly. Southampton look like a right bunch of Charlies. But in the pantheon of great sporting scandals, this is pimple sized
Henry Winter@henrywinter

The outrage about Spygate is understandable. If proven, it’s cheating. It’s seeking to gain a sporting advantage over an opponent. Let’s hope this ire is also now focused on other varieties of cheating in football, namely the amount of deceit that can stain games... 1/2

If you’re wondering what is going on in the UK right now, the state is having a complete meltdown about the working-classes of this country daring to mobilise on the streets. Until now, the political class and the state have been absolutely fine with people protesting. Islamist sympathisers? Fine. Antisemites? Fine. Pro-Iran stooges? Fine. BLM revolutionaries who protest while breaking Covid laws? Fine. The prime minister will even ‘Take the Knee’ to show he is with you. If you’re a ‘former’ Islamist and ally of al-Qaeda he’ll even invite you into Number 10 Downing Street for a cup of tea. And if you’re an antisemite who calls for violence against white people and the West, such as Alaa Abd El-Fattah? He’ll welcome you with open arms. But if you happen to belong to the decent majority of hardworking, tax-paying and patriotic Brits whose ancestors actually built this country then you must be treated very differently. You are considered a threat. You are considered dangerous. You are considered divisive. You are considered evil. The very same state that has pushed people to the very edge - by refusing to fix the borders, by flooding the country with 200,000 illegals, by unleashing mass sexual assaults, by entrenching two-tier justice - now demands that the people who have to live with this do not say anything about it at all. And if they do protest, then they must feel the full force of the law in a way that others do not. The majority must be policed while minorities are protected. Facial Recognition technology. Revised CPS guidance. Countless more police. Warnings from politicians. The only silver lining is that now, today, everybody can see it. Everybody can see what is happening. It’s out in the open. The bias is unavoidable. And everybody has had enough. Keir Starmer and the British state clearly hate many of their fellow citizens. They clearly do not view people who happen to hold different views as legitimate. But by treating them in this way they are only ensuring that the numbers of those who do choose to protest tomorrow spiral to levels they can no longer contain, silence, ignore, or dismiss.

@zarahsultana Burnham is right that NHS should be partly privatised with fees for GP services same as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, France, Germany etc etc etc. Doctors would not be leaving this sinking ship. You are blind if you think you can continue the NHS funded purely by taxes

Andy Burnham voted for the Iraq War, an illegal war that killed over a million people. As Health Secretary, he helped drive NHS privatisation. He joined Labour Friends of Israel, opposed BDS as “spiteful”, praised Israel as a “democracy”, and called the Balfour Declaration “British values in action”. He is a Zionist. Stop pretending he’s a radical alternative, he’s more of the same.
Andy Burnham@AndyBurnhamGM

I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this failure from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the UK and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. Millions are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better for them in its first two years. After this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I truly do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in the Makerfield constituency, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again. ENDS

I had bog standard blood tests at GP surgery in mid-March. Was told to expect results early the next week. I got the results in early-April. In late-April I got a request to have another blood test as one was borderline and needed further testing. The detailed results said this should be done within 2 weeks - and then monitored every two weeks. I couldn’t get a blood test appointment for 3 weeks. I had a blood test today and can expect the results “early next week”. I have not been offered - and cannot book of my own volition - another blood test. I won’t hold my breath. Depending on the results I may (or - hopefully - not) need to be referred. Only then would I count as on a waiting list. And yet I’ve actually been waiting 6 weeks already. The government’s figures are fantasy.
Allison Pearson@AllisonPearson

Wes Streeting claims biggest fall in NHS waiting lists for 17 years. Total joke. *GPs struggle to get patient onto list * Appointments cancelled count as reduction in list * Patient dies on list (result!) * Patient despairs and goes private * Repeat

Told yesterday of a couple in their 80’s who went to their GP surgery to make an appointment to change her tablets as she has cancer. She was told she couldn’t have an appointment for several weeks. They sat in shock, then a woman who couldn’t speak much English came in to book and was given one the following day. The gentleman went to complain and was told they get paid £184 to give an appointment to the other lady. Shocking. 2-tier system.

My 5 year old boy does football training. At the end of the session they do a ‘man of the match’ type thing. My boy is always desperate to win it. He often doesn’t. I explained to him the other day that he didn’t win simply because he wasn’t good enough. That he deffo could win, but he just needs to be better, try harder, be more focused etc. One of the other mums heard me & was aghast at what I said. She told me she is going to get ‘runner-up stickers’ for all the kids who don’t make it. I said no thanks, not for my son. Kids need to learn that they can be the best, but they must apply themselves & dust themselves off when it doesn’t go their way. No consolation prizes, no ‘everyone’s a winner’ etc. There are winners & losers. Wanna win - do your best. Can’t make it? Don’t worry, go & smash something else. Play to your strengths & never, ever play the victim. If more parents & institutions had this attitude, the country would be in a better place - if I say so myself 😉 Cc @KonstantinKisin x.com/KonstantinKisi…
