#MTCelestial On 20 May, US Navy stopped Iranian-flagged MT Celestial (heading to Khorfakkan) 150km out & ordered it 400 miles away amid blockade. Indian 2nd Officer Nishanth Uirthanathan (35, Tamil Nadu) died on 11 June near Duqm Port, Oman from medical complications. Company claimed they were sending a chopper for evacuation — but it never came. Crew distress calls allegedly ignored amid regional tensions & ship status delays. Body kept onboard without proper refrigeration. FSUI demands investigation. Tragic loss for seafarer family. #JusticeForNishanth #SeafarerSafety @dgshipping_IN @shipmin_india @IMOHQ @ITFglobalunion

Three Indian sailors were killed in U.S. strikes on a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman Tuesday, according to India's shipping minister. U.S. Central Command accused the ship of violating the ongoing naval blockade of Iran's ports and associated vessels, saying in a statement that the engine room of the Palau-flagged M/T Settebello oil tanker was fired on after the crew "repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces." Manoj Yadav, the general secretary of the Forward Seamen’s Union of India, says the deadly incident has frightened thousands of other Indian seafarers, and argues that the U.S. could have fired a missile at a different part of the vessel to warn sailors. cbsn.ws/4axKVje

The sailor died from medical complication after falling sick aboard the Celestial tanker which had been diverted by the US Navy. FSUI posted on X that the crew had to keep the body on board the ship for two days and used cold water bottles in the absence of refrigeration systems. rt.com/india/641590-i… @dgshipping_IN @shipmin_india @UN @imohq

Mumbai, Maharashtra: General Secretary of FSUI Manoj Yadav says, "This Hormuz Strait is not a matter of choice; it is a route through which nearly 20–25% of global trade passes. In the last three months, the demand and importance of this route have increased significantly. In such a situation, if the Strait of Hormuz operates peacefully, the pressure that has built up can be brought under control soon. As far as sailors are concerned, I believe they are the heartbeat of the sea, and they will resume their work again..."

Mumbai, Maharashtra: General Secretary of FSUI Manoj Yadav says, "We welcome this peace agreement on behalf of the seafarers, as reported in the media this morning and supported by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran. If this agreement becomes a reality, we would like to extend our congratulations, as thousands of Indian sailors are currently stranded there. In the past week, several incidents have been reported in which Indian sailors have been attacked on ships... Unfortunately, we have also lost three of our sailors in these incidents..."

Mr. President @realDonaldTrump & @WhiteHouse, We welcome the historic US-Iran peace deal reopening the Strait of Hormuz, saving thousands of innocent seafarers’ lives. We demand the US pay fair compensation of not less than $5 million to the families of the 4 seafarers killed/died — Patnala Suresh (Chief Engineer), Aditya Sharma (Deck Cadet), Shivanand Chaurashiya (Fitter), — by missile attack & Nishanth Uirthanathan (Second Officer) delayed medical aid due to the blockade. Justice for the victims is key to lasting peace. 🙏 #SeafarersSafety #JusticeForSeafarers@shipmin_india

The mortal remains of our late brother Nishanth Uirthanathan, Second Officer, have been brought to port. An unforgettable tragedy marked by shocking hypocrisy: all SOS alerts were ignored, and timely medical support was denied, leading to the death of this young officer. Despite three days of bureaucracy, his body remains onboard. We demand immediate repatriation to his family in Tamil Nadu. Rest in Peace, Nishanth. FSUI stands with the family. Full investigation needed. #MTCelestial @ITFglobalunion @IMOHQ @dgshipping_IN @shipmin_india @Indemb_Muscat @MEAIndia @FsuiManoj
