@EmmaBostian while i appreciate this sentiment as very humane, it's not the best way to extract high performance out of your team. as a new manager it's important to fully internalize this

@t3dotgg while that may be true (i wouldn't know), it probably isn't as challenging as the technical problems you face when you're "at scale" at a place like google, meta, or linkedin

@NetSematary while that's true, working only 8 hour days won't get you to the apex of your potential (like the upper levels of engineering at a place like google)

@kyleshevlin While this is true that it's bad for wlb, this isn't the best advice to give to aspiring engineers who want to make it to senior or staff engineer at a top tier tech company

@fuckyouiquit I appreciate your point of view, but this "grindset" is actually what's needed if you ever want to hit the senior levels (staff+) at tier 1 tech companies like Meta and Google. I wouldn't discount it

@Jason @tiktok_us @inside I agree. Top tier engineering teams like mine at google would never do the unethical things that are happening at tiktok

@seldo Sorry I meant no offense. A lot of people can’t pass tier 1 tech interviews so they don’t see the insides of these companies. I just wanted to clear up any misunderstandings. My apologies.

@FaangStaffEng Are you actually mansplaining how legal works at big tech companies to me or is your account some kind of weird troll?

@ryanflorence I heard they gutted the phone app team at Apple. Only junior engineers left. Really sad state of affairs. Will get way worse until it gets better and they get some tier 1 talent again

@seldo It might be hard for people outside of faang to fully appreciate, but legal is just as much a part of a software development team as the engineers and designers. They, along with other xfn stakeholders, ensure that data is processed ethically. This is at every tier 1 USA tech co

@ViteConf @youyuxi @vite_js This is really exciting! I hope he shares performance improvements though. Even though I love vue, we can’t use it at tier 1 tech companies because it’s too slow (both runtime and js bundle size)

@AdamRackis Yes but for senior engineers there’s just so many of them and the time waste is real. I try to stay respectful but I understand why other senior engineers get upset about it

Assuming they're not being toxic or insulting, it's incredibly easy to not be an asshole to persistent recruiters.

@SaraSoueidan While I agree that a11y is easy (and therefore ridiculous that most companies don’t invest in it) it’s more than just alt text on images. You need to label everything clickable with aria attributes (and *then* you’re done)

@necolas While I think that’s true for most companies, it has been solved at FAANG by investing in tooling. The internal developer experience at FAANG is much better than the few times I used GitHub

Interesting to see the housing market in Austin flip so quickly had a feeling something was off when houses were more expensive per square foot than in Bay Area seeing same houses on market for 6 months, delistings/relistings (reset days on market!), price cuts Field reports?
