I can't be the only one who notices university presidents going absolutely gaga over athletic victories and achievements, far more than they praise students' academic and service achievements. Am I? (And I say this as an avid sports fan.) #HigherEducation #priorities

Has anyone else noticed that Congress only calls female Uni presidents before them to testify?

University admins who continuously complain that faculty resist change use tired and weak justifications for their half-baked business plans to dilute the true work of a uni education. Getting sick of business "leaders" who think they know better than everyone else. #HigherEd

If you supervise PhD students, when they’re feeling down, it greatly helps them to hear that you also had difficulties during your PhD. It makes them feel less alone, and that they will still be okay. #PhDVoice @PostdocVoice

My older brother drove over the I35 bridge minutes before it collapsed. He was listening to the news when he heard about it and had to pull over because he was shaking thinking about how close he came to dying. You know, those people who were stopped from driving onto the Key Bridge because it was closed are thankful that that call came in.

I asked twitter to help me access a paper, and a prominent researcher that I've never spoken to messaged me back with a link (it wasn't his/her paper). Sometimes academia does have a great community. Sometimes the well known people are actually nice. I think we forget that.
