Let me give an example to proof most designers don’t learn about the platform they’re designing for. - Requesting for permission. When an app is designed to use features like location, Android requires you according to the guidelines to show a modal on why you’re requesting this permission before the actual permission popup. Apps have been rejected for this particular reason. Very often, the developer is left to figure out how that modal will look like and they go with the default Android modal. - Google has made it mandatory that apps will now have portrait or horizontal display, you don’t force them to stay portrait or horizontal except it’s a game. Now some UIs will break against this rule. - If you must use sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, they’ve provided guidelines on how to create such buttons if you must customize it or they recommend you use the one they provided on their website. - Designers don’t create a color scheme for the developer to work with. They leave the developer to just extract colors on their figma board. - Some years back, I tried to follow googles material design guidelines and I noticed any app built following those guidelines will look more like an app created by Google. While designers may want some customization, at least follow the guidelines to some extent.
