By 2050, UP might have more than 200 LS seats if one goes by the population argument. Already UP’s approximate population of 25 crore people today is equal to the combined population of Karnataka + TN + AP + Telangana + Kerala. Voters per MP seat is not at all a suitable metric to determine how many seats a state should have. What about smaller states then? Can Goa ever have as many voters per MP seat compared to Uttar Pradesh? Can a North Eastern state match Bihar in Voter per MP seat? One has to follow multiple federal principles. Just because UP and Bihar’s population keeps on increasing, one cannot keep on giving them more seats. South India and smaller states have to protect themselves NOW and reject BJP’s delimitation. Or accept becoming an inferior colony forever.

This bill is increase Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 850 bill. This bill is remove census 2026 for delimitation bill. This bill has got nothing to do with women’s reservation. The Bills that his Government has circulated for the special session of Parliament contradict all the so-called assurances that he has been giving. The southern states will lose their strength in the Lok Sabha and so will smaller states in northwest India and states in the east. What happened to the uniform proportionate increase of strength in the Lok Sabha for all states - that was promised by the PM and some of his colleagues? That has not happened. The PM’s assurances cannot be trusted. He is unable to rise beyond his crude power-grabbing impulses and be a statesman - even on an issue as sensitive as delimitation. The Bills were uploaded on Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. The delimitation provisions are an insult to his legacy and a reflection of his warning - delivered in the Constituent Assembly on November 25, 1949 - about the dangers of a government that isn’t guided by constitutional morality.
