@BrianRSolomon I have spent a lot of time in Knoxville, Tn and if you mention wrestling to anyone, the first names that comes up are Ron and Don Wright and Whitey Caldwell.

Something that helped me comprehend how big of a deal wrestling stars of the distant past were, despite their names having faded over time, was speaking with people born in the early 20th century. These people were not even wrestling fans, but it was amazing who they remembered.

@BrianRSolomon I first saw it in the same magazine, actually that issue of The Wrestler was my introduction to The Sheik, John Tolos, and Victor Rivera, guys who I immediately became fascinated with!

First saw this picture in the 25th anniversary issue of The Wrestler in 1991 (later learned it was taken by the legendary Theo Ehret). It definitely stayed with me as a kid, as I assumed wrestling “wasn’t real”, and this certainly gave me pause!
