@Fastbak77 @mariasrainer It's a matter of taste. The people not illuminated this way in the BTS footage look fine, by contemporary standards. The colour stocks of the mid 60s were slow and contrasty compared to later developments but this lighting style is a hangover from B&W cinematography.

The best thing about DS9 and what made it the best in the series was that it was grounded in a single location with constantly reoccuring players, you got to get a feel for who Bajorans and Cardassians were. The "people of the week" on TNG or Voyager came and went

The "Star Trek was always woke" discourse is difficult to parse because people so often misremember the original series, which was largely written by WW2 generation writers & reflective of post-Kennedy liberalism, so you got messages like "Vietnam is regrettable but necessary."

A big part of the slower cadence of modern TV production is streamers dithering on renewal, but it's also a product of audience demands for bigger, more elaborate productions with lots of shooting days & VFX. Add to that a main cast of kids with restrictions on shooting hours.

@MuseZack They did it for Christopher Lee in Star Wars. They digitally put his face on a young stuntman for some of the fight scenes. Lee joked that he wished he had the tech in the Hammer films because he always had to carry someone up a flight of stairs. 😀
