I have created "So You Want To Design a Pintle Injector" Hopefully someone who knows almost nothing about designing rocket engines, can pick this up and understand it from beginning to end. Feedback is seriously welcomed! This is my first try at this maxoberg.dev/project_update…

Really tried to see that Firefly launch from SF, but it just ended up being me trying to catch eye floaters in my vision as I took in a blue sky

It’s 498 miles to West Texas, 🗺️ I’ve got a full tank of gas, ⛽️ 6 cameras, 📸 plenty of camping supplies, ⛺️ and a lunar eclipse to catch. 🌕 Let’s hit it. 🕶️

The first full, integrated, test of my liquid rocket engine turbopump with cryogenic propellant! It has taken me 3 years from paper to this test run and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. There is lots to change and improve, but overall not a bad first integrated run. Sound on:

Definitely gave me this type of feeling though. But dammit, ai is kinda dumb when you get down to it.

@eigenrobot Man do I agree with this take. With some caveats where visual displays are necessary, just write the damn thing. In the age of ai though, finding good writing is hard when you have to sift through ai generated articles first

Quick analysis of today's WB-57 belly landing: ADS-B tracking data from @Flightradar24 & @ADSBex suggests that the WB-57 (Registration N927NA / Callsign NASA927) came to a stop at approximately 17:20Z (11:20L) on Runway 17R at Ellington Field (KEFD). ~2.5 minutes before crash Listening into the Ellington Tower replay audio from @LiveATC, NASA927 requests a touch-and-go from KEFD Tower. KEFD Tower approves a touch-and-go for Rwy 17R. NASA927 reads back this clearance. This is the last transmission from NASA927 recorded. ~2.5 - 0 minutes before crash There were no communications recorded from/between NASA927 in this period. Approximately ~1.5 minutes before the crash, KEFD Tower asks a following aircraft to switch to Rwy 17L. It is unknown if this request is related to N927NA's location at all. Approximate moment of crash KEFD Tower slightly steps on the end of another aircraft's call, saying "NASA927?". There is no reply. ~30 seconds after crash The Tower controller hands over control to another controller. ~40 seconds after crash The new Tower controller confirms that they have "a WB-57 crash on the runway [...] Right now 17R is not usable". Weather The closest METAR report to the accident was taken at 16:54Z (10:54L), approximately 26 minutes before the crash. Wind: None Temperature: 6°C Visibility: 10 miles Cloud ceiling: None Pressure: 30.58inHg Conclusion At no point on NASA927's final final approach was there any recorded mention of landing gear problems, an intentional no-gear landing, etc. NASA927 had been flying multiple circuits of KEFD today, conducting touch-and-gos on 17R. To emphasize: this analysis is purely based on ADS-B data and audio recordings available online. This data may be incomplete or incorrect. We await the official NASA report. 📷 @KHOU

Incredible piloting skill to bring this down for a belly landing. Great to hear that the crew are safe. Of NASA's 3 WB-57s, this one (N927NA) is the only one which has been flying recently. Hopefully it can return to service, but repairing an aircraft of this age will be a challenge. x.com/houstonairw/st…

@FaultedBeing If it's fixed maybe. If it's on a TVC you're going to get some weird precession

Is there a net moment axially from the momentum flux of the fluid going in a helix? I know of one other kerelox engine with helical cooling channels that had this issue.
LEAP 71@leap_71

New giant print by @Eplus3dM — this 200 kN KeroLOX engine stands more than 1.3m tall (4.3ft). Printed on an Eplus3D M825 metal AM system and engineered by Noyron. The cooling layout uses both LOX and kerosene in two separate circuits, pre-heating the oxidizer for higher ISP.

#1 thing to accelerate US innovation the next 10-20 years will be making sure every high school + middle school in America has a robotics team + resources for it if you talk to enough young builders, the most common theme is their love to build started in 8th grade robotics
