Throw book 1 AS Aang against comet boosted Ozai and he loses HARD. Book 1 Aang is what would have to face an army of comet boosted firebenders

And we already see Aang in the avatar state fight Ozai during the comet and do well enough blocking fire from him. It’s also obviously not comparable to lightning in terms of speed.

That’s the only time it’s really backfired significantly as well from what I remember.

@dreazsz but in a 1v4 Ozai vs the whole red lotus? Yeah red lotus takes it, a likely very difficult fight but should be a red lotus win 100% of the time. Comet boosted Ozai would wipe the floor with them though, even with P'Li's combustion bending being amped.

@dreazsz I could see Ozai beating any of them 1v1, granted we never see him really fight without the comet but being able to fire double lightning is kinda cracked against anyone, plus we can assume Azula's extreme respect for him partly comes from him being stronger than her

Being untrained with it means Aang cannot willingly control it or exit it (in fact most times when he first started using it the state would knock him out). Azula sneaking him showed that numbers and distractions WILL work.

The avatar state is just way stronger than anything any other bender in the series has, and even if they focus-fired on him I don’t think they’d get through whatever defense he’d put up.

@sheevpfizertine @Twenty1st_Pilot An untrained avatar getting killed by comet boosted soldiers means no avatar either. The absolute worst case scenario (and most likely one) is they killed Aang in his untrained and berserking avatar state, meaning no avatar ever again.

@mcuult To be fair yes aang was twelve but you don’t see the other avatars using them becoming the avatar as an excuse to run away from your duty a lot of the other avatars lost something or someone before becoming the avatar or while they became the avatar yet you don’t see them running

Considering that Aang was the primary target of Sozin's blitz, they would be throwing everything they have at him too.

He wouldn't be able to leave the AS, if any comet boosted soldier killed him the avatar cycle is lost forever.

@daenyrasm Exactly! This is why the writers wrote book 3 as Zuko and Katara redemption arch. But the Nickelodeon executives wanted the 'hero' to end up with the girl, so they were forced to change. The writers planned for zutara. Thats why kataang didnt had a build up and was rushed

@youwhyyyie zutara's just kept mistaking trauma and brooding for mature. Zuko had a temper and would lash out at others around him. He could not control his own guilt at all and projected it onto others. All of Aang's worst moments are just Zuko's average tuesdays. Mature my ass.
