Sorta related but There really was a switch in anime where they just stopped giving their characters ethnic/distinguishable features and even the styles became more generic.

Mojang is adding sulphur caves to Minecraft and instead of making them mechanically interesting to navigate (given the well known dangers of sulphur caves irl) they just shoved in a cutesy mob designed to sell merch and called it a day 😭
