Plan next year's garden to help pollinators "A garden provides an opportunity to be an eyewitness to the challenges pollinators face from a changing climate. We rely on these creatures for the fruits and vegetables we enjoy at Thanksgiving." yakimaherald.com/explore_yakima…

A French study found that a single Asian hornet nest consumes 11.3kg of insects each summer. A typical honeybee weighs 116mg. Ian Campbell of The @britishbee Association says, “The impact on biodiversity could be very significant.” Read the rest here: bit.ly/AsianHornetNest

@AndySeddon74 Perhaps a "one-legged, lesser black-backed gull with yellow legs and a spot of red on its beak." Visually accurate but not necessarily correct by name we think. 😉😎😁

There are 20,000+ species of bees worldwide. Contrary to popular belief, most bees don't live in hives, have no queen, and don't make honey. The majority of #nativebee nests are in the ground, dug by bees that collect #pollen and #nectar, and lay eggs. #feedthebees

@CarlBovisNature He definitely looks like a "Harold" or perhaps a "Tarquin." It's final, the hive is going for Tarquin. We're all in agreement. We had a chat.

@B_Strawbridge @BuglifeScotland It was just recently that we found out that 'Megachile' was neither a big bowl of bean or meat and bean stew, nor was it a huge country. It's just a wee, leaf-lovin' bee! #feedthebees

Leafcutter bee (Megachile versicolor) bringing a piece of leaf back to her nest. Using oval-shaped pieces to line the tube, she provisions each cell with pollen, lays an egg, & blocks the cells with round-shaped pieces, which amazingly she cuts to the exact diameter of the tube!
