McBee and Society Hill are well known revenue generators on the way to Darlington. But they're not "speed traps", where cops hide behind billboards to nab unsuspecting drivers. Both have signs entering town warning "speed enforcement in use". Pay attention! Or... pay the ticket!

RARE EVENT: The "Carolina Powder" Scenario this weekend. Usually, when we talk about snow and let's say 0.10" of liquid in the Carolinas, we’re bracing for a slushy inch of concrete or ice. Not this time.With this cold air in place, we are looking at ratios closer to 15:1. That changes the game completely. ❄️ The Breakdown: 💧 0.10" Liquid (Standard Wet Snow) = ~0.8" accumulation. 🌨️ 0.10" Liquid (Carolina Powder) = 1.5" of fluff! Same amount of moisture, nearly double the snow pile. So, depending on how much moisture we get, it could increase totals. This is the kind of snow you can actually clear with a leaf blower. This same setup could mean that dry, cold air "eats" some of the initial moisture through evaporation or, in this case, sublimation. We’ve got a signal to watch for the weekend. Pattern Recognition. We have a favorable pattern for wintry weather in the Southeast for Jan 31-Feb 1. Here’s the breakdown: The cold air is locked in (plenty of it! ), but the outcome depends entirely on the track of a developing coastal low. As you can see in the graphics, I’m tracking three scenarios: 1️⃣ Winter Impacts Track (Closer to the coast, higher impact) 2️⃣ Something Track (A brush or mix) 3️⃣ Nothing Track (Stays out to sea) Remember: We are still 5+ days out. We are just now entering the "Trending" phase. DO NOT look at specific snowfall maps yet—it is way too early for details like amounts or exact precipitation types. We rode the LYNX Blue Line with Mayor Vi Lyles and local leaders, then held a roundtable focused on making transit safer and more reliable. As Charlotte grows, we need transit systems that keep up and give folks a safe, dependable way to get where they need to go.
