Why are we still here? Just to suffer?

@Bar_tolmi So do you think that *Brigham* was the one that made it up and that Joseph had only one wife? If so, what about all of the other women Joseph was married/sealed to? What’s the actual story here?

The totally contrived origin of section 132 in the Mormon Doctrine and Covenants (Plural marriage AKA polygamy). "The original copy of this revelation was burnt up; William Clayton was the man who wrote it from the mouth of the prophet. In the meantime, it was in bishop Whitney's possession. He wished the privilege to copy it, which brother Joseph granted. Sister Emma burnt the original. The reason I mention this, is, because that the people who did know of the Revelation, suppose it was not now in existence. This Revelation has been in my possession many years; and who has known it? None but those who should know it. I keep a patent lock on my desk, and there does not anything leak out that should not." -Brigham Young, Deseret News Extra [Salt Lake City], September 14, 1852, pp. 24, 25.

Read a few of the wilder comments here on X, speculated on how many are bots. But mainly stuck to something called...the facts.

@DiscipleFidei @Lets_Talk_HC I know Calvinism will disavow that. But if all things glorify God, and He wants all to be saved, and He alone has the power to irresistibly regenerate a person, why does He not do that? The Calvinist God could save everyone, and He is choosing not to. That’s Hayden’s point.

@FiddlyWiggly @Lets_Talk_HC You’re still assuming that if God desires something, He must ensure it happens… which no Calvinist holds to that idea. God desires obedience, yet permits sin, right? All things glorify God.

@DiscipleFidei @Lets_Talk_HC Yes, and so His will and desire is that all people be saved, but He also will to let us make that decision to accept His grace. If He wills that all be saved, but is the sole decider of “unconditional election,” then He is absolutely fighting against Himself. (2 Pet. 3:9)

@DiscipleFidei @Lets_Talk_HC Nonmormon, nonCalvinist here. 1 Tim 2:4 shows that the Calvinist God has a desire but will not do His desire. He is either not sovereign as Calvinism defines, or he is double minded. If He is sovereign and his desire is total salvation, then we’d have to be universalists

@MrWHOsecond2 By referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, — Ephesians 3:4 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. — Ephesians 5:17

@RigdonNancy3 I have found that the LDS church prefers to maximize its persecution complex though, and I wonder if removing the policy might make that more difficult.

No one can say for sure that the Book of Mormon is ‘fake.’ Absolute certainty isn’t how history or science works. I know Jesus visited His people in America, and the Book of Mormon bears testimony of it.

@Benthamsbulldog I think lukewarm religious people might be the best-off religious people (or maybe more accurately casually religious). They get the general moral principles and the internal stability of religion while feeling free to generally live as they wish and avoid certain rel. pitfalls.

Lukewarm religious people are so funny. Their view is "God told me to do such and such, potentially with the threat of eternal hellfire. So I follow it maybe once a year."

@pimomormon Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 The Bible consistently puts life/death on a different level that what you mean

This graphic is pretty insane NGL. This shows the growth of Christianity in general from the days of Jesus to AD 400. Red line is comparable growth of the LDS Church in reported numbers, and orange estimated active LDS. #SaintsOnX

@TryinDaily @cheesecakegood @nicoraytruth @ComeHometoRome I know you’ve read D&C 132 and know Smith and Young’s polygamist history. You can have that attempted to be explained away to gain statehood, but it’s still in LDS scripture. Which is why there are a lot of polygamists in my community too

@cheesecakegood @nicoraytruth @ComeHometoRome So it’s the air and guns making the kids gay? Not a church with “alternate” sexual ethic and a history of covering up abuse? My county in UT has a higher predator count per capita than my mountain CA county. x.com/fiddlywiggly/s…

@shoughtonjr @realHoid @nicoraytruth @ComeHometoRome @grok LDS background is the big distinction in what I’m seeing. In CA, you’d have the occasional loud LGBT person. Atheist background. Sure. There is such a dense concentration of former LDS LGBT here

@FiddlyWiggly @nicoraytruth @ComeHometoRome Bad stats. There’s a significant confounder statistically which is just altitude. If you control for that, the rate is pretty normal-to-good IIRC. Other high altitude states have same effect. Plus guns. County by county, highly LDS counties have lower rates!!

@shoughtonjr @realHoid @nicoraytruth @ComeHometoRome @grok Majority LGBT were abused/confused as kids. Minority are social contagion. Couple that with Mormon leader sexual ethic (D&C132 vs Romans 7:1-3) and LDS cases of abuse, AND church policy of putting on a good public face no matter what: it’s a recipe
