Last night at the local RSL I came across virtual greyhound racing. People actually bet on them. What new form of insanity is this?

That’s misleading.
“One of the last countries on the planet to allow it” suggests it’s banned everywhere else, which simply isn’t true.
In most countries it just isn’t part of the culture.
What you’ve actually done is ban a long-standing part of UK and Irish sporting heritage for optics, not context.

Greyhound racing has been banned in Scotland!
We were one of the last countries on the planet to allow it. But the Scottish Parliament overwhelmingly backed our bill last night.

Target the smaller countries first then it gives them the ammo to go after the bigger ones. Same here in Oz with TAS. It will give them the ammo to go after the other states.

Scotland greyhound ban passed too. Less important as there’s actually no racing there. Always good for citizens to know the finite time and resources are put to good use. I know ££££, but as I’ve said 100 times if you ban dogs on welfare grounds you cannot defend horse racing

They won’t and can’t get us on welfare as we are the most regulated sport so they have turned too dodgy backroom deals!

@Big_T_2 @suelily123 There’s 21 countries world wide which practice non commercial greyhound racing along with the 5 who practice commercial. 26 countries in total so I think it takes place in just more than a few.

After a break due to kennel cough over recent weeks, involving numerous deaths, greyhounds in Tasmania will tomorrow be sent back to push themselves beyond safe limits on unsafe tracks. In the weeks and months ahead, many will predictably suffer injuries, some extremely painful, some life threatening. They will suffer these injuries both on the unsafe tracks and during training away from the tracks. It is cruel, it is not supported by most Tasmanians or Australians, it needs to stop now.
