We remember the 51 people who lost their lives during consecutive terrorist attacks on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019.​ ​ The far-right terrorist entered two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, armed with several firearms and brutally took the lives of 51 worshippers. He promoted his pre-attack manifesto online and proceeded to broadcast his attack on Facebook Live using a head-mounted camera. He is currently serving a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.​ ​ This tragic event led to CST establishing its SAFE initiative, ‘Safety Advice For Everyone’.​ SAFE shares CST’s security knowledge with groups outside the Jewish community that are vulnerable to violence, extremism or hate crime.​ Everyone has the right to lead their lives in safety and security, so they can best protect themselves against threats. This is the second attack on Jewish targets this week in the Netherlands. Synagogues have also been targeted this week in Canada, the U.S., Belgium, and Norway: set on fire, bombed, and rammed with a car. Governments must urgently strengthen protection for Jewish communities, enhance intelligence-sharing, and hold perpetrators—and those who incite them—accountable.

CEP highlighted his connection to the deceased al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who for years served as a radicalizing figure for U.S. and European extremists. Though many of al-Awlaki's sermons were removed from some online platforms following CEP advocacy, he has remained an influential figure.
