For what it's worth, Adesanya and Pyfer in the main event at #UFCSeattle have similar striking metrics. Notably, both have below average strike outputs. It's Izzy's range vs Pyfer's youth.

Gambling to fight boredom during a war. I learned my mother would have had a seat secured there. But the new 2010 Greenbrier casino is underneath the main hotel - very large. Grand opening had a bunch of celebs… imagining how Ben Affleck or Jessica Simpson’s management sold them on a trip to W. Virginia is amusing in itself.

@Fightnomics I haven't been in a while. I think the Greenbriar's underground casino might have at one time been a government facility for continuity of government in case of a nuclear war.

On this day, March 19th, 2011 @JonnyBones won the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship via TKO R3 vs Shogun Rua.
I was watching live in Newark, and this Superman punch became the inspiration for the cover art of my book. The number +2.5 was Jones’ SSLpM average vs Rua’s.

@FightExperts FightMetric does now have a flag missed weight and also the value for actual weight…. So this can be done. Unfortunately I’m traveling and don’t have access to my full dataset. But I would be interested in the results as well - so I will save this for an off week.

@Fightnomics Hey Reed, any chance you got the % of wins when people are a specific OVER-Weight? eg. Fighter A weighed 139, 3lbs OVER. What if it was 136.5?

I re-ran the model with flipped odds. Originally, I had the tiniest fractional lean on Johnson. Now I actually have a real lean on Dober. These types of situations the models don’t handle well. When it’s close, I run them both ways and see which one has the higher combined average. In this case it’s Dober. But I also tend to pass in these situations.

This #UFC326 card is loaded with fighters who have scored lots of knockdowns. I counted well >80 career KDs among them.
But which pairing combines for the most? It's not the main event (20), it's actually Johnson-Dober (22). And they did it in 70 less minutes.

For a fairly noob heavy card, I don’t have many leans. I think Green forces an over as a steep dog. Moreno’s strength of schedule is far greater, but numerically I agree with main event odds. Inverse for Perez where numbers really like her over a vet I normally back in Chiasson.

If you want to understand behavioral economics and prospect theory, let me phrase it this way. I felt more pain when Duke lost to UNC two weeks ago, than the elation I felt when we beat the number one team tonight. Negativity bias is a unfortunate thing. But it makes us competitive, and arguably it’s what compelled us to evolve as human.
