@Mikiashvili_M Sure, but back then, situation was different from what is now. I don't quite see the possibility that Abkhaz side would come to it in any way. Also russian factor has transformed somewhat. Georgia too. I dont think what you fear will happen any time soon

This is a VERY important article about the recurring threat that the Georgian Dream could play a “confederation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia” card to project the illusion of reunification, rally support, and permanently give Russia a veto power over decision-making in Georgia. Worse still, these regions could later declare independence unilaterally, and this time legally so. By @gocha_gogsadze!

As an outsider trying to understand a really complex issue why do so many young/alternative people in Georgia strongly support reunification with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, while it seems many people in those regions don’t want to rejoin Georgia?

@LeonPantsulaia @JJ_Latvia @zstantekin That´s simply not true. It has hundreds of years of independent development from the rest of Georgia. Principality of Aspilia, Abasgia, Principality of Abkhazia, Russian protectorate, SSRA and past 3 decades as republick of Abkhazia. And it has different national identity

@JJ_Latvia @zstantekin @FilipSkora10 national and regional identity. Abkhazia was NEVER a separate national entity, it was always a regional part of the Georgian state. By mislabeling this, we allowed Russia to hijack the narrative and the land 1/

@FilipSkora10 @JJ_Latvia @LeonDidia Georgians say they are from Abkhazia and are Megrelians because their native name was stloen after 300k were ethnically cleansed. Accepting the new associtaion just validates genocide. A stolen identity remains stolen even if the thief uses it daily

@LeonPantsulaia @JJ_Latvia @LeonDidia I see no problem in using it interchangeably. One is endonym and other is exonym, but both refer to the same thing now a days. I never encountered a Georgian using that description for himself. Its always Georgian from Abkhazia, because Abkhazian is now fully asociated with Apsua

@LeonPantsulaia @JJ_Latvia @LeonDidia And Abkhaz inscriptions could not be anywhere, because the written form was created in the 1880s. Similar to the Circassians and even later the Chechens who relied on Arabic for centuries. But I don't see anyone disputing that they are natives

@JJ_Latvia @LeonDidia The state and religious language of Abkhazia was always Georgian for many centuries. Every church built from the 6 to the 13 century like Bedia and Mokvi is purely Georgian in style. You will never find an Apsua inscription on any ancient wall because they were not there yet

@LeonPantsulaia @JJ_Latvia @LeonDidia You know this isn't very strong argument. It is proof of Georgian existence in Abkhazia. Not that Abkhazians weren't there. There are also roman ruins and greek inscriptions older than any of the georgian ones. Same way one could imply Georgians werent there until 6th century CE

@anfucius @KalebAtlanta Funnily enough Abkhazian orthodox christianity also have its own schism. Today, it is divided between two factions. Abkhazian orthodox church and holy metropolis of Abkhazia

One of the reasons Georgian Church doesn’t recognize Ukraine’s autocephaly is the fear of Russian retaliation over Abkhazia. Many Georgian bishops worry that if they recognize the OCU, Moscow could respond by supporting or recognizing a separate "Abkhaz Orthodox Church" as independent from the Georgian Patriarchate, effectively detaching Abkhazia (canonically Georgian territory, but occupied by Russia) even more from Georgian ecclesiastical control. This has been cited as informal "blackmail", with Moscow holding back on any such move to keep leverage over Tbilisi. Despite some internal pro-OCU voices which you found on your own, caution has prevailed so far. I’m sure you can find facts proving what I’m saying here.

@GeorgeZhiba @SyPresidency Although I understand the desire of Georgia for Syrian withdrawal of recognition. Does the opinion of opposition have any real meaning, if its not in power?

@SyPresidency The Georgian opposition recognizes the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and welcomes the fall of the bloody regime of Bashar al-Assad. Therefore, Syria must withdraw its recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia.

@rogueprince00 @Briangelashvili @lymanstoneky Surely there Are people out there who do. Still, I think Abkhazia needs to reform its military doktrin and adress Its shortcomings. Notably, It should be more focused on building defensive fortifications and lean hard into asymmetric warfare techniques

@Briangelashvili @FilipSkora10 @lymanstoneky Georgia would be fighting to expand their minor empire, Abkhaz would be fighting for their homeland. Georgia lost 1 war and 3 clashes against Abkhaz. Who wants to try that again?

Georgian ‘opposition’ are so shameless, cowardly, and opportunistic. They’ve been desperately painting Georgia as captured by Russia, now they reformatted it to paint Georgia as Iranian hub to get US to care & take out the government for them so they can be in power. thehill.com/opinion/intern…

@ritsakudjba @sopjap Second: Only citizens can hold public sector positions. Most Georgians aren't, which was for long time tolareted. That now ended and people who don't meet criterias are being fired. Reducing numer of teachers that can efectivly keep techintg in georgian language. So it's replaced

@ritsakudjba @sopjap I think they blame the Abkhazians for surviving. Abkhazia did everything it could to avoid war, and after the war, it tried to maintain dialogue. The reason for their anger towards Abkhazia is that Abkhazia won the war.
