"An exceptionally brilliant portrait of how politics pulled America, kicking and screaming, into 2025 by one of the best, toughest and non-partisan reporters the United States is so very fortunate to have."  - Bob Woodward on “Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign that Changed America”

In advance of America's 250th anniversary, the enormously talented Salvatore Catalano has been working on a series of presidential portraits. They are incredible. I'm going to start posting them here, starting with this great portrait of George Washington.

I find it interesting that Trump supporters have never seen these videos. They claim there is no footage of that day. 😳 I watched it in real time on TV when it was happening, just like Trump. 1. FYI, the footage is all over the internet. 2. You can CLEARLY see them breaking windows. The law says that’s breaking and entering. 3. I’ve been to the Capitol, you have to go through security to enter. You don’t enter through broken windows. That’s just a fact.

Senator Ron Johnson says CNN canceled his interview yesterday after he told them he planned to discuss internal documents showing public health officials covered up COVID vaccine harm. “Not one major network has covered this story.” “I was just invited to be on CNN yesterday.” “I told them what I would talk about, they canceled the interview.” @SenRonJohnson

#BREAKING: Ari: What do you plan to do with the money you raise from the flat 2% tax on the super wealthy and raising the corporate tax to 11.5%? Mayor Mamdani: “…that would get you $9 billion…this is our revenue plan. This would MORE THAN pay for our economic agenda. It would actually allow us to start Trump-proofing our city, and what I mean by that is we’re seeing right now what the Trump agenda portends for New Yorkers. This is a man who ran a presidential campaign on the premise of cheaper groceries, that is now trying to cut SNAP benefits to make it even harder to afford those same groceries. We have to protect New Yorkers with the least from the attacks from the man with the most power in this country.”👊

If you see wild turkeys in your neighborhood, you're seeing one of the biggest conservation wins in American history. They were down to just 30,000 birds in the 1930s. There are now over 6 million across the US. They're excellent natural pest control, eating beetles, snails, mice, and even ticks. A wild turkey in your yard isn't a pest, but a native species that almost disappeared and came back because hunters, biologists, and state wildlife agencies spent 50 years bringing it back.

Heart disease kills more people than every cancer combined. Lilly just published Phase 1b data in the NEJM on a single injection that could prevent most of it. Permanently. The science starts with a genetic accident. A small percentage of people are born with a broken PCSK9 gene. Their livers clear LDL cholesterol so efficiently that researchers tracking them over 15 years found up to 88% fewer coronary events. The effect was so large it looked like a data error. The reason is timing. Statins lower your cholesterol at age 45. A broken PCSK9 gene lowers it from birth. Decades of low LDL compound into plaque that never forms in the first place. You can't reverse 40 years of arterial damage with a pill. You can prevent it entirely with a gene. VERVE-102 is a base editor. Single IV infusion. One letter changed in your liver cells' DNA. The PCSK9 gene turns off permanently. Phase 1b results across 35 patients: 88% reduction in PCSK9 protein, 62% drop in LDL cholesterol at the highest dose. Durable at 18 months. The effect didn't fade. Lilly paid $1.3 billion to acquire Verve Therapeutics for this program. The global statin market does roughly $16 billion a year selling daily pills that patients take for life. If a single infusion replaces 30 years of daily medication, Lilly didn't buy a drug. They bought the retirement plan for an entire drug class. One shot to join the genetic lottery that most of the population lost.

Eli Lilly has done it. They've gone and made what seems to be a powerful, permanent gene therapy for LDL cholesterol. That means they'll be able to effectively prevent most heart disease with a single infusion!

Los Angeles, 15-year-old Clara Daly from California, was travelling with her mom. A flight attendant asked if anyone knew sign language. Clara, who had studied ASL for about a year, volunteered. The passenger was 64-year-old Tim Cook, who is deaf and blind, flying alone. Clara knelt in the aisle and fingerspelled into his hand to communicate. She helped him order water, check the time, and speak with the crew. For the rest of the long flight, she stayed with him, chatting until landing and bringing comfort to his journey.

A birth certificate proves citizenship in this country. Trump does not want that to be the case. If the Supreme Court rules in Trump’s favor in the birthright citizenship case, a U.S. passport will be the only way to prove citizenship. “If you don’t have [a U.S. passport], you’re not going to be able to register to vote,” Marc Elias said.

Congress has allowed non-immigrants to adjust their immigration status from within the United States since the 1950s. The framework was designed, in the words of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, specifically to prevent family separation and allow companies to retain employees during visa backlogs. A USCIS policy memo issued Friday instructs agency officers to treat those applications as "extraordinary relief" - reversing seven decades of statutory law through an administrative directive. "You can't, through a stroke of a pen, overturn a statute," immigration attorney Todd Pomerleau told ABC News. The specific trap: Afghan nationals who assisted U.S. forces and received humanitarian parole are being told their choice to apply for permanent residency inside the United States will count as an adverse factor in their own application. The lawyer ABC quoted said it plainly: many of them have nowhere safe to return to. Some of those Afghan allies processed through Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, Indiana after the 2021 withdrawal. They followed the legal process. Tonight, that process has been reclassified. The administration says it is going after criminals. These are the people it is going after instead.

The Trump administration on Friday issued a sweeping policy directive requiring most temporary visa holders and humanitarian parolees living in the U.S. to return to their home countries to apply for and complete their green card applications. abcnews.link/dhpMoI5
