You can waste your time and money trying to beat the market by timing it, picking stocks, or picking mutual fund managers, or you can swallow your pride and ego and take the route that is easy but will put you in the top 1% when it’s all said and done. DM me for the simple path that’ll put you in the top 1%.

@ramit Personally, I’d rather invest the money in an S&P 500 index fund or a U.S. Total Stock Market index fund than pay into social security.

Imagine Republicans had succeeded in privatizing Social Security like they’ve been trying lfor decades Do you see how disastrous that would be in this very moment? Millions of panicked seniors would sell their investments, leaving them impoverished for the rest of their lives

@ramit What do you think of the reasons Scott Bessent has laid out for why they’re doing what they’re doing?

The reason so many Trump supporters are still praising him — even though Trump has directly cost them tens of thousands of dollars — is simple If they admitted he was wrong about even 1 thing, the halo of worship they’ve built around him would come crashing down So they justify

What the @bogleheads know: If you have a sane asset allocation and a portfolio of low-cost investments, you can pretty much tune out the current nonsense with tariffs, market gyrations, etc. I've got to say, it's incredibly freeing.

@elonmusk Restrict them from investing in individual stocks / foreign stocks. They should only be able to invest in a U.S. Total Stock Market index fund.

It might make sense to increase compensation for Congress and senior government employees to reduce the forcing function for corruption, as the latter might be as much as 1000 times more expensive to the public

I don't really get when people hunt around for the best cash yields, assemble CD ladders, etc. My bias is to buy a federal money market fund from a very low-cost provider that pays you the lion's share of prevailing yields. Cash holdings should be simple and low-stress.

How do you feel about filing your tax return and sending money to the government this year after what @DOGE has uncovered with USAID?

The longer you own index funds, the higher the probability they outperform active funds. It's true for every asset class around the globe. Don't waste another day or another dollar on hopeless active management. A few good index funds is all you need to be successful. indexologyblog.com/2025/01/30/do-…

@Rick_Ferri I think I’ve seen an interview with John Bogle and read a book by him where he seemed to be opposed to investing in international stocks. Do you think his viewpoint would be different today?

It's not as if international stocks have done poorly; it's that US stocks have done so well! Why continue to invest in international stocks, such as #VXUS? More diversification. You more than double the number of companies in your portfolio, achieve broader industry exposure, and gain a currency hedge. Source: Goldman Sachs Wealth Management

“The year hedge funds got their mojo back”. On average they returned 10.7%. Meanwhile the S&P 500 returned 25%. Keep it simple, invest in an S&P 500 index fund or U.S. Total Stock Market Index Fund.

There is one simple way to avoid this, don’t use a financial advisor. You don’t need one.

Not sure what investments to select in your 401(k) plan? Look for the large cap index fund with the lowest expense ratio. This index fund should mirror the S&P 500. This is the one you should pick.
