Andy Burnham says he won't call an early general election because “people don't want it.” I don't buy it. In my opinion, this Labour leadership switch was planned months in advance, with the timing carefully chosen. Becoming Prime Minister just before summer recess gives Burnham 6 weeks to dominate headlines with positive PR, while avoiding the weekly scrutiny of PMQs. If he then calls a general election in late August or early September, Parliament is dissolved, PMQs disappear, and the campaign becomes another 6 weeks opportunity to sell promises without the same level of parliamentary challenge. That's why I think this timeline was orchestrated from the start.

@Blueblur_23 cms needs separated from dwp and totaly overhauled. its nothing short of a disgrace. paying parents can't afford to live, yet relieving parents get child maintenance on top of benefits.

The maths teacher stated that he received a letter in 2002 saying he owed £947 in child maintenance. His ex even told the agency NOT to collect it! 17 years later, LONG after his children were adults and the case had been closed for over a decade, the Child Maintenance Service (CMS) suddenly demanded NEARLY £19,300 and took the money straight from his bank account! 😡 He fought them in court and won every penny back, but he still ended up more than £6,000 out of pocket in legal fees. He rightfully stated that it “doesn’t feel like justice.” The BBC has spoken to dozens of other paying parents caught in this exact same ghost debt nightmare. I must stress that the CMS corruption has been happening for a really long time! Long-time campaigner and veteran, Craig Bulman, has been fighting these systemic failures since the old Child Support Agency days in the mid-1990s. He has repeatedly called for a full public inquiry into the CSA and CMS while helping countless others who were often ignored or silenced. It’s good that the BBC is finally shining a light on it, but I must be truthful by saying that this isn’t nearly enough.
