@Despera417 @CameronCorduroy Ah makes sense. You should take it up with the journals as I'm sure the editors would have open ears to hear about what their field is as defined by a history undergrad.

@FinnStel @CameronCorduroy you could have a Nobel prize in economics and never seen a supply chart? just because something says economics doesn't mean it is?

@Despera417 @CameronCorduroy So we’re on the same page what’s the counter example? Lucas had a undergrad in history and Kahneman PhD was in psychology. So how does this prove your point?

@Despera417 @CameronCorduroy By your standards, a Nobel Prize Winner in economics is not an economist. The undergrad means nothing, Robert Lucas' undergrad was in history but that doesn't mean he was a historian. The research matters and he has research published in economics journals.

@Despera417 @CameronCorduroy His thesis is literally about economics. It doesn't matter if he's in a particular department. He's literally published research in economics.

@FinnStel @CameronCorduroy fuck if I know. I do know if you are going against 100s of years of economic principles it helps to HAVE A DEGREE IN ECONOMICS

@JuicyJuuce @kingofthecoastt It's a positive claim about the type of social change that will occurs as function of exploitation as defined by marxist theory. It's not saying what they want to occur given certain conditions.

@FinnStel @kingofthecoastt i'm not familiar with that debate besides the cursory AI glance i just took, but it seems it was about the past and wasn't about marxism's prescriptions for the future, which has huge normative content.

My favorite lefties are the ones who act like Marxism is an extremely sophisticated ideology that requires a lot of study to understand. Like no, it takes a single sentence. “I think it’s immoral to earn interest on a loan.” That’s it!

@JuicyJuuce @kingofthecoastt I get that online marxists use it in this way but to give a clear example of what I am talking about. The brenner debate was principally about how exploitation affects social change but there are essentially no normative claims in this debate yet its about marxist theory.

@FinnStel @kingofthecoastt it's the eternal marxist motte and bailey around the term exploitation. "exploitation is merely a descriptive claim!" "we will wade through oceans of blood to end the misery of exploitation!"

@DanNeidle Women are generally more risk averse so it doesn't seem that surprising.

@kingofthecoastt I get that its usually interpreted as obviously normative even by people who call themselves marxist but this is surely the point that actual marxist is trying to get at. It is more sophisticated than interest = exploitation = bad.

@phdcornbread @leshaami @Bugrepo00 Please. What’s irrational is all the men who resort to homicidal mass shootings to deal with their emotional issues. 98% of mass shootings are irrational cowardly men.
