I hope to see this backed up on 30 Oct by maintaining funding homelessness services next year, followed by full cross government spending review to ensure future funding models support the promised mission approach and cross government strategy to end homelessness.

Thank you @Keir_Starmer for making new commitments on homelessness and rough sleeping in your conference speech. Looking forward to detail on commitments for veterans, care leavers and victims of domestic abuse who are amongst those most at risk of homelessness.

@jamesgoldstone @Victoria_Spratt Also over 21 if “vulnerable”. So could be removal of “vulnerable” condition, but we’ll need to wait for more info. Really pleased that homelessness and rough sleeping made it into the speech.

@FionaMColley @Victoria_Spratt Care leavers only up to 21? And only if they were in care as a child over 16. You’re right though, sounds like something more than just priority need

Starmer also says that care leavers and victims of domestic abuse in housing need will also be housed. Does this mean taking them out of temporary accommodation and into permanent housing?

@Victoria_Spratt It’s either that or (more likely) including them in priority need so they avoid sleeping rough.

Great to hear @Keir_Starmer mention care leavers in his speech and set out his commitment to tackle homelessness - 1 in 3 face homelessness within 2 years of leaving care so this is a really welcome step.

Starmer says that all veterans in “housing need” will be housed. It’s thought that around 3 per cent of rough sleepers are veterans

Great to be invited by @HomelessLink to attend this discussion with @PaulaBarkerMP, @dsnorthnorth, @emily4MK & sector leaders. There is much for @UKLabour to do to get homelessness & rough sleeping under control and it was positive to hear that the will is there.

This week I have been meeting with organisations across the homelessness sector including @HomelessLink @NHyouthcentre @crisis_uk & more, to discuss the scale of the problem we are facing and what needs to be done. Sadly, the the extent of the situation is immense.

Today’s public spending statement laid out a timeline for a short and medium term spending review. We’ll need to campaign together to protect homelessness funding for next year and secure a better funding model for the future. linkedin.com/posts/fionacol…
