@Nigel_Farage Hopefully we hear you speak out on our ridiculous self defence and firearms laws which do nothing to deter crime and only embolden criminals knowing their victims cannot effectively fight back.

Which is why we also have a protected individual right to free speech, instead of what was only a right of parliament in the UK

I agree, but no reason to limit it to pepper spray. If a knife-wielding maniac is within pepper spray range, you are already in incredible danger. You need handguns.

@HowardMSklar @MorosKostas I merely pointed out the 2nd amendment traces its origins to British legislation. Your founding fathers simply improved the wording of it and clearly because of the circumstances people were willing to defend it.

Firearms ownership in Britain today is not considered a right.
Our 2A came to be partially because the British sought to deny colonists that very right. Lexington—the "shot heard 'round the world"—was an attempted gun confiscation by the British.
We are NOT the same.

I fully agree with legalising Pepper spray. It is non-lethal and it would significantly shift the balance enable people to defend themselves.

In Britain, using pepper spray, even in self-defence, is classed as possession of a prohibited weapon under the Firearms Act. The maximum sentence is 10 years in prison. Firing a handgun without lawful authority carries a maximum sentence of 14 years. This is insane, possessing and using pepper spray must be reformed. If the authorities will not protect us, then citizens must be allowed to defend themselves.

There is no greater deterrent to criminals than the idea that their victims might be able to harm them.

Further info. The US 2nd amendment is based on British constitutional acts. It could be argued we do have the right but no one is fighting for it.
