Met police allow far right march by Tommy Robinson in central London But refuse to allow Palestine march in key parts of central London, where it has marched for years Clear bias by @metpoliceuk consistent with its repression of Palestine protests. SHAME theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/a…

@Firsttimedad001 @GarrickKingston @judeinlondon I work from home. That's my 'place of work' But the HO of the charity I work for is in Bristol. I can expense that as it is not my usual place of work. If your firm are forcing you to pay to go to London, but you work mostly in another office, ask awkward questions!

“80k a year is not rich” says people upset that those claiming £12k a year in benefits should pay the same as someone earning 80k a year. Make it make sense
B@ERBeaumont

@GriftReport 80k is not rich. I hate people like this who can’t tell the difference and kill all aspiration.

@GarrickKingston @cashandcarrots @judeinlondon Yeah it’s mad isn’t it, turns out if you go above and beyond and take an interest in your career, it’s progresses. This would be a normal conversation between everyone I know. I guess it’s a mindset thing, I want to bring everyone up, you seem to want to drag everyone down.

@Firsttimedad001 @cashandcarrots @judeinlondon I read it cupcake, and with the latest twist in your story, it seems that for expenses purposes you have two permanent workplaces. One of which isn't your permanent workplace 🤨 and costs you an unforced £600 a month. And you're bitching about unemployed people going to the zoo?

@ABU_N3RVEGAS I’ll never be convinced (I don’t think) that the system isn’t abused more than people admit, and the ripple effect on society is bad. But happy to admit where I’m wrong with that statement. I’ve had the benefit of some real stories today (plenty of abuse too, mind you!)

@Firsttimedad001 Definitely - a big issue is the misrepresentation on what benefits consist of and what’s offered. Plenty is cherry picked in the media and just not at all an accurate representation. Honestly a real shame, since I think people would be more open with a bit more knowledge.

Going to be honest with you mate, about £500-£700 a month for gas, electric, food, household items, public transport and whatever it is your kid(s) require at any given point doesn’t leave a whole lot left over for fun.
First time dad@Firsttimedad001

@judeinlondon Those on benefits will have every single bill covered for them, that £12k is essentially fun tokens. Im on not far off 80k a year, and do not have £1k a month disposable income, I live in a terraced house in cheap area, drive a 5 year old VW, when it’s all on you, it’s hard.

@GarrickKingston @Firsttimedad001 @judeinlondon I've just been to London from near York. Car is 44mpg petrol Dacia Duster. 4 people plus luggage in car. Fuel cost for 470 miles (including a trip in London suburbs) was £84. My previous Volvo V50 diesel got 60-65mpg loaded. Something above seems not right tbh.

@GarrickKingston @cashandcarrots @judeinlondon Did you read that, sweetheart? I can’t expense any of it? You can’t expense your commute. I could cut back on the train travel as that’s my choice, I suppose, but it’s good for my career. Can’t do a lot about the price of diesel and needing to go to work every day.

@Firsttimedad001 @cashandcarrots @judeinlondon So in fact, you're not spending £300 a month on petrol/diesel/whatever, are you. Most of it gets reimbursed. And I bet this selective reporting applies to other bits of you sob story, too. (Don't give me any flannel about conspiracies, sunshine.) Glad we got there in the end.

@cashandcarrots @judeinlondon 90% work… I needed something reliable as I do quite high mileage. I have a 5 year old Passat estate, I’m hardly rocking about in a Porsche.

@Firsttimedad001 @judeinlondon Where exactly are you going in order to spend £300 a month on petrol and spend £600 on train fares? That's a lot of travelling. You didn't need to get a car that requires a £400 a month loan.

@GarrickKingston @cashandcarrots @judeinlondon Yeah, I have an office about 40 miles away I commute to pretty much daily, and then I got to head office on the train about 3 times a month. Pretty standard stuff. I can expense any business mileage, but not my commute. All very boring, no conspiracy here I’m afraid.

@Firsttimedad001 @cashandcarrots @judeinlondon Oh, now it's diesel, eh. You're clocking up something north of 1,500 miles pcm, outside commuting. Also, if it's nearly all work related, how much of this is put on expenses and/or claimed back against tax? Don't tell me none of it is!

@Stuho1mez @Electrofountain @judeinlondon Financial modelling, not taxing but requires concentration. May try sneak in a glass of wine to watch the end of the masters after. Enjoy your beer, apologies for my earlier outburst.

Do you think it's right to be hostile to disabled people, carers, parents? Do we need any more fckuing hostility in our lives? Don't we have enough as is??? innit
First time dad@Firsttimedad001

@kirksavage @MartinPerring @judeinlondon Shouldn’t that be the case, though? In an ideal world it wouldn’t be, but we have an unsustainable model. So a life on benefits needs to be discouraged. A lot of people will be trying to better themselves, many won’t and have become accustomed to a life funded by the state.

@FurFamilyCats @donsimon814 @judeinlondon Of course there are. This afternoon has been interesting, educational and though provoking, which is the point of interacting with people with different experiences and view points to your own. Sadly too many live in echo chambers and will resort to abuse when that’s challenges

@vi_toka @judeinlondon Pride, sense of purpose, teaching my children principles, not willing to rely on others to support me. Being a productive member of society… a whole host of reasons.

@KShabby16334956 I don’t look down on anyone. I have an issue with a system that has us arguing over crumbs instead of growing the economy, and I think the way the benefits culture has developed is at a detriment to everyone long term, probably more those on welfare than others.

@nightingales2_2 @judeinlondon Fair. I am guilty of too may takeaway coffees, it’s something I’m trying to cut back on. Not a fan of avocado. My fixed rate mortgage came to an end which walloped me, have to get the train to London a few times a month Which is a killer aside from that my life is prettybasic.

@Firsttimedad001 @judeinlondon What on earth are you spending all that money on?! I've done the maths. On min wage the point at which income equals outgoings (bills, food etc) for one person is with £700 a month rent. £600 p/m if you have travel costs.
