@cruickshank Washington overall tax is actually pretty high compared to most states. The only thing that kept it in check was there was no income tax. Add an income tax and now Washington lost only advantage it had, and will fall off the very back of line and competitiveness.

This crashout over WA adopting an income tax, which nearly every other state in the union has, is comical to watch.
I get the arguments against CA’s “billionaire” wealth tax, that’s a fundamentally different policy approach than a simple income tax targeting the rich.

Washington state's Tax Competitiveness remains a dismal 45th place in the US, for Tax Foundation's 2026 rankings.
Idaho is 9th.
Tennessee is 8th.
Texas is 7th.
Florida is 5th.
It didn't have to be this way.
As recently as 2022, we were 15th place.
A decade ago in 2016...

$7.25 an hour is about $14,000 a year. No one can survive on that. People can barely survive on double that. We raised the minimum wage in Illinois. It's long overdue everywhere else.

Is this a familiar conversation for other parents on X?
I hate this policy.
I’m sure teachers see it as compassionate, and I understand the instinct. But “do it whenever you feel like it and turn it in late with no consequence” is not kindness.
It is reaching our kids that deadlines are suggestions, procrastination has no cost, and urgency is optional.
That is not how the world works after graduation.
A little flexibility is good. Grace matters. But grace without any expectations does NOT prepare kids for adulthood.
