The ideal strategy is likely a combination of very inexpensive home/on-the-go evaluation methods and highly-sensitive CPC methods for low-cadence occupational/community testing.

Repeated testing, on someone's own schedule, is a way to increase protection. Point-in-time testing e.g. classic occupational fit testing 1x year

My new bodyguard arrived in the mail yeatserday and she is fierce. Doesn't ride up under chin, foam strip hugs tight around my super high nose bridge, *and* more breathable than the Aura 9205. #winning

@ericbkennedy @AdvancedTweaker Qualitative testing is the way to go here.

Everytime I have to unmask for the security check, I hold my breath until masking back. But there is a small chamber between the respirator and the face. So I will exhale to push the dirty air out before the first inhale. Not sure whether it is scientific.

For people who have facial hair they cannot shave, a large elastic exercise band stretched around the head may work to obtain a good fit. Called the "Singh Thattha technique," this method was validated by Sikh dentists in the UK. youtube.com/watch?v=5tRvFT…

To get a good fit with a respirator it is almost always necessary to shave facial hair. This means daily shaving when wearing a respirator, not just on the day you fit test. Some facial hair in the places the respirator doesn't touch might be OK. CDC has this nice guide:

Saccharine able to establish FF >= 100 with confidence, it’s just less sensitive. Bitrex is superior if you think it’s better to have false failures than false passes.

@ParentMishmash @Kenneth33071904 While this is a fairly small sample, it looks like saccharin will provide average performance of FF 77 (1.2% air leak), but it could be as bad as 39 (2.5% air leak). 😬

The Gibbs breathing apparatus was the first government-certified respirator, approved by NIOSH's precursor, the United States Bureau of Mines in 1920. It used a combination of compressed air and soda lime recycle the wearer's exhaled breath, removing CO2 and adding clean oxygen.

@IPizza666 You may want to try with “cord locks” as well. You can adjust top/bottom independently. Search mask cord locks on Amazon/etc.

so i did a DIY fit test with a diy hood and some bitter fit testing solution in a nebulizer. for those who want the breatheteq look and breathability but dont get a seal, i was able to pass the fit test if i added this : etsy.com/ca-fr/listing/…

@emilyabell @selise @sameo416 to provide a good fit on a variety of faces without modification. The CanadaMasq Q100 earloop respirator, designed for healthcare usage in Canada, is one. It is similar to the US BreatheTeq mask.

@emilyabell @selise @sameo416 Not everyone can get a good fit with earloop respirators and they aren’t a good choice for all environments (e.g. if you’re jackhammering a they’re never going to work well). Using “cord locks” which shorten the earloops can improve fit. Some earloop respirators have been shown
