Excited to update everyone on OpenRespirator. First step was to build the tools to make a mask. We developed a toolset which allows prototyping in silicone and co-molded plastic for $30 with one time capital of $4K, and of course all open-source!

Almost 2 years ago (Dec 27, 2021) - I sent @masknerd an email suggesting that we develop an open source condensation particle counter (CPC) to enable low cost and accessible air quality monitoring and quantitative fit testing for all.
He said yes and we founded @OpenAeros.

Wider future access to high quality mask fit testing for the general public got a big boost today as Aaron Collins of @OpenAeros demonstrated a working open source quantitative mask fit testing machine at the #AAAR23 conference :-)

Wow! What a great poster session at #AAAR23 where @masknerd got to present the latest on the OpenCPC. This isn't just all theoretical though, if you look close you can see the first OpenCPC in the wild, quietly measuring away.

@mryoung151 @3MCanada @OpenAeros I know some people tried to do it, but it doesn't seem to have been viable so far. Not sure whether it is cost or the challenge of one off 3D. printing of thin, soft and flexible materials needed for a comfortable, airtight seal, which appears to be a hard problem.

3.5 years into this, can’t someone figure out a way to 3D print a custom mask for a person’s face? How about temperature sensitive seal so if it turns purple on the edges like a moon ring you know it is touching your face? Pay me royalties later but save lives now @3MCanada
