Sandra Day Basketball Incident: A post from facebook: Deer Valley Unified School District’s public statement regarding the incident at O’Connor High School reads less like an investigation and more like an endorsement of their Athletic Director’s actions. In the AZCentral article, the district states the parent “continued to refuse to relocate to the visitor section” and claims the protocol is applied “consistently to all attendees.” That framing places responsibility on the parent while offering no explanation for reports that other spectators were not required to move. If policies are truly enforced consistently, there should be no issue providing transparency about how and when they are applied. Instead, the district’s statement appears to affirm the decision without acknowledging the concerns raised by the family. When a Native family expresses that they felt racially profiled, the response should prioritize clarity, equity, and independent review — not language that reinforces the original action. This situation deserves a transparent, impartial investigation to ensure that all families are treated equally and respectfully. If you believe in fairness and accountability in our schools, consider contacting Deer Valley Unified School District and the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) to request a full review. @BrendenMartin_ This is the first time a non-Flagstaff team has won the GCR Girls Hoops title since the region was reconstituted in 2016-17. Also, the first year the Lady Eagles have lost two region games in a year since 2013-14.
