People often improperly say “hung by his own Petard” when the phrase is properly rendered “HOIST by his own Petard”. The confusion stems from a lack of understanding of what a Petard was, with many assuming it was an article of clothing with which one could “hang” themselves In fact a Petard was an early type of formed breaching charge, used to blast open city gates. Explosives were placed inside of a metal bell shaped vessel, with the wide open end of the vessel secured to the outside of the offending gate, and then charged was detonated via a fuse on the opposite side. An improperly constructed Petard, or an improperly affixed one, could lead to it improperly flying backwards into the side it was deployed by, potentially blasting them into the air… in one piece or in many… Their own Petard (shaped breaching charge meant to be used to their own advantage in battle) “Hoisting” them (into the air)

アメリカから届いたグリッツを調理。まず説明書通りに塩で煮た。煮ているうちにどんどんグリッツの形が変わっていく。立派なお粥になったので、バターとチーズを入れて食べるが、やや物足りない。そこで鶏ガラスープの素を入れたら印象が大きく変わり美味しくなった。これは研究し甲斐のある食材だ🤗
