I know nothing of video. That absolutely is a generative model though. You cannot go from 372p to 1920p using normal algorithms. Things like the hairs on the head, certain textures etc. its definitely analyzing the image and inserting aspects that aren't in your source or even in the original. They all have different algorithms and characteristics on how they process images but one thing notable on a non generative model is the most you can do is 2x scale without creating redundant/blurry pixels. If its performing higher than that its likely doing something funky.

20 min of work, text is soft because it's masked separately and done in a dedicated pass. Its hand done so I can keep refining it as I go, do highlights, additional shadows etc. but here's an idea I guess. I stick close to the original

@StormslayerDev @cooper_csc It is not perfect but it is super close to the original image, preserving the colors and placement of details, this is because of how the model was trained specifically for faithful restoration and not to "reimagine" the input or make anything from scratch

@StormslayerDev @cooper_csc What do you think about non generative upscaling models? I've been fooling around with one called SeedVR2, it's meant for video restoration but works just fine with images. Compressed/SeedVR2/Original
