A Nigerian governor was kidnapped in broad daylight.
Not by criminals.
By his own political godfathers.
They drove him to a forest in Anambra State at midnight. Took him inside a shrine. Forced him to swear an oath in front of a deity called Ogwugwu.
The oath said: you won because we put you there. You will do what we say. If you betray us, you will die.
He signed. He became governor. His name was Chris Ngige.
One year later in August 2004 police raided that same shrine.
What they found stopped the country.
83 corpses. 63 of them had no heads. 20 loose skulls scattered across the forest floor.
Then they found a register.
Names. Dates. Amounts. Governors. Senators. Businessmen. Some of the most powerful people in Nigeria had been coming to this forest to swear oaths over stolen money and political deals.
If you swear on Ogwugwu and break your oath, the priests come for you.
31 shrine priests were arrested and paraded in Abuja.
Not one politician was questioned.
Not one governor was charged.
Chris Ngige later became a Senator.
Then a Minister under Buhari.
The shrine is still there.
This is Nigeria. 🇳🇬
