Hacktivists briefly defaced two U.S. Army websites with political messages before the pages were taken offline and restored. The incident highlights the growing trend of politically motivated cyberattacks targeting government infrastructure, as investigations continue into how the websites were compromised.

Legal AI continues to gain momentum. Norm has raised $120M at a $1.2B valuation to expand its AI-native law firm, where AI agents handle legal work under human attorney supervision. The legal industry is rapidly shifting toward AI-powered, outcome-based services over traditional billable hours.

AI is entering its production era. Vercel says the biggest opportunities are coding agents and enterprise AI agents, while the industry shifts toward modular AI systems where models, infrastructure, and data remain interchangeable. The next AI battle isn't just about better models it's about building the platforms that power them.

Google has expanded how it uses your data for AI. Images, voice recordings, and other media uploaded through Search, Lens, Maps, Translate, and other Google services may now be saved and used to improve AI models by default. If privacy matters to you, it's worth reviewing your Search Services History settings and opting out if needed.

AI is transforming more than products it's reshaping the workforce. Throughout 2026, major tech companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Oracle, Salesforce, and others announced layoffs while pointing to AI-driven restructuring, automation, or increased AI investment. The AI era isn't just changing how we build software it's changing how companies are organized.

New Anthropic research: A global workspace in language models. Of everything happening in your brain right now, only a tiny fraction is consciously accessible—thoughts you can describe, hold in mind, and reason with. We found a strikingly similar divide inside Claude.

Frontier labs have shifted into rolling-release mode since mid last year. In 2023 and 2024, flagship launches still felt spaced out: GPT-4, GPT-4o, Claude 3, Claude 3.5, Gemini 1.5. From 2025 onward, the cadence tightens sharply. OpenAI moves through GPT-5 and the 5.x line. Anthropic stacks Opus 4, 4.1, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8 and Fable 5. Not only are the models getting faster and better, but the speed of releases is also increasing.

MICROSOFT $MSFT IS CUTTING 4,800 JOBS, AND ITS OWN HR CHIEF WENT OUT OF HER WAY TO SAY AI ISN'T WHY The cuts hit about 2.1% of the global workforce, mostly in sales and Xbox gaming, per an internal memo from HR chief Amy Coleman. "I also want to be direct that the roles eliminated today are not being replaced by AI." Microsoft also ran a voluntary buyout program this year for longer-tenured employees. About a third of nearly 9,000 eligible workers took it, which is why this year's cut is smaller than last year's, when Microsoft eliminated 15,000 roles combined across two rounds. (Source Insider)

The end of an AI era. Amazon will stop accepting new customers for Mechanical Turk on July 30, marking the gradual sunset of one of the internet's most influential crowdsourcing platforms. Once essential for data labeling and AI training, the rise of modern AI has made the platform increasingly obsolete.

Grok Build just got another feature-rich update, introducing smarter agent workflows, better automation, and a wave of reliability improvements Release Notes: v0.2.85 — 2026-07-03 Features: • Pressing Enter on an empty prompt now sends the top queued follow-up immediately while a turn is running. • Tool call grouping can now be enabled via config.toml or settings to collapse consecutive read/search/list calls. • Consecutive tool calls of the same kind can now be folded into a single row when group_tool_verbs is enabled. • Subagent conversations now receive the same type-specific instructions in gateway chat as in the CLI. • Scheduled automation tasks now show their header panel correctly in gateway chat sessions. • Promotional announcements now appear with clickable CTAs and can be non-dismissible. • Subagents now run in the background by default unless explicitly set to false. Bug Fixes: • Permission prompts now correctly wrap long bash commands while preserving structure and quotes. • Claude Code settings with permissions.defaultMode are now correctly honored. • Project skills and commands are now discovered even when their directories are gitignored. • Inline LaTeX math with padding spaces now renders correctly instead of showing raw dollar signs. • Manual /recap now works on the same turn and long auto recaps are hidden from view while still saved. • Always allow for common commands like ls and git status now remembers just the command instead of extra arguments.

Another major Grok Build update just landed, packed with new features, extensive bug fixes, and meaningful performance improvements Release Notes: v0.2.84 — 2026-07-03 Features: • Announcements now update live during active sessions without restart or /new. • Hiding an announcement no longer suppresses later criticals; new ones reappear automatically. • run_terminal_cmd now requires a one-sentence description rationale in every invocation. • ask_user_question timeout policy is now configurable in config.toml and /settings. • Ask-Question timeout can now be toggled from /settings (Agent & Approval). • Thinking/reasoning blocks are now shown by default while the model is working. • Critical announcements now show a red title with a clickable [hide] button and aligned message. • Added remote_fetch option under [features] in config.toml to disable all backend catalog and settings fetches for air-gapped environments. Bug Fixes: • Images pasted or read from GIF, BMP or TIFF files are now automatically converted so they work with image generation. • Queue panel now shows action buttons on hover and the status bar displays a compact done/total task count. • Hook matchers now correctly see the real MCP tool name instead of the internal dispatcher name. • Copy now succeeds when running inside containers even when the terminal brand cannot be detected. • Tool result previews no longer paint opaque panels in grok --minimal. • grok wrap now correctly handles quoted strings and shell aliases. • Text selection settings now correctly honor explicit keep_text_selection values even when legacy keys remain. • Fixed a freeze that could occur when editing and sending the last message in the queue. • Fixed a startup crash on minimal Linux systems lacking system CA certificates. Performance: • Grep now stops early on broad searches, returning faster results with far less memory use. • Idle CPU and memory usage after long sessions or resume is now dramatically lower.

The Boring Company is moving fast in Dubai 🇦🇪 Dubai Loop Phase 1 has moved from agreement to construction mobilization Step one: activate precast concrete segment production The scale is insane: • ~25,000 tunnel-lining segments • ~4,000 pounds each • ~100 million pounds of concrete lining Before the tunnel opens, the factory has to move first Phase 1 will run 6.4 km with four stations, linking DIFC and Dubai Mall The full Dubai Loop is planned to expand up to 22.5 km with 19 stations The next layer of Dubai transportation is being built beneath the city right now

President Trump on his crypto earnings: “I don’t do anything having to do with my business. My kids run it. I have a lot of money. I made a tremendous amount of money. I let people invest it. I don’t even know who they are.” Not going to lie, I would love to make over a billion dollars and have no idea how I made it lol.

𝕏 dropped Live Studio for livestreamers. Basically, a proper control room for going live, connecting with followers, and managing streams without the usual tab-hopping circus. It’s now inside Creator Studio. Which makes sense. If creators are building audiences live on 𝕏, they need better tools than “good luck, press the button.” A solid upgrade for the people actually doing the show. @X / Writer: Annette, Designer: Janné
