Hate to be the one to burst your bubble but the military has always primarily been a career option for the poorest men in society since the beginning of time. Why? Because it has on the job training, room and board provided, pension, rather good job security, and you get to travel. For all intents and purposes, the military is ideal for people who have no other prospects.
