Trump’s Call to Modi Was Damage Control Strip away the diplomatic niceties and the picture is clear: Donald Trump’s call to Narendra Modi was not routine consultation, but pure damage control. By routing through Pakistan his 15-point “peace” plan to end the war that he started against Iran, Trump has made that country’s army chief an indispensable intermediary. Field Marshal Asim Munir’s emergence as Washington’s channel to Tehran not only underscores Pakistan’s geopolitical relevance to Washington, but also fits with Trump’s earlier description of Munir as his “favorite field marshal.” For New Delhi, the optics are galling. India bears the brunt of the economic fallout from a war launched by its two principal strategic partners, the U.S. and Israel. With the Strait of Hormuz effectively disrupted and Indian shipments exposed to risk, New Delhi is both stakeholder and victim. Yet, in a stark inversion of roles, it is not India but Pakistan (which has long used its nuclear-weapons shield to export terrorism) that is Washington’s diplomatic conduit. This explains Trump’s phone call. The language of keeping India “in the loop” is just reassurance — a way to soften the blow, not change the reality. Because the reality is this: When it mattered, Trump chose Pakistan as the conduit, and is now trying to make sure Modi doesn’t take it personally. This is just the latest occasion when Trump has sought to undermine his “very good friend” Modi.

The Cost of Playing by Washington’s Rules: Soon after concluding a framework trade deal with the U.S. early last month, India, at Washington’s urging, seized three tankers that were under U.S. sanctions for transporting Iranian and Russian oil. Now, in a little-noticed reversal, the U.S. has eased sanctions on such “shadow fleet” tankers to contain the global economic fallout from its escalating war against Iran. In May 2019, when U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil exports took effect, India dutifully reduced its crude imports from Iran — then its second-largest supplier — to zero. China, however, has defied those sanctions with impunity, continuing to purchase what has remained the world’s cheapest oil. India’s loss became China’s gain. Now, with Washington easing sanctions on Iranian crude already at sea in an effort to cool surging oil prices, New Delhi is seeking to buy Iranian oil for the first time in almost seven years. But Iran says it has no oil at sea for sale or surplus oil at home for export. Even if it did, it is unlikely to extend discounts to India as it traditionally did. Before Washington this month granted India a 30-day waiver to purchase Russian oil already at sea, New Delhi had been steadily reducing its Russian imports under U.S. pressure since last autumn, bringing them to their lowest level since April 2022. The result has been a greater Indian reliance on energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz — a strategic vulnerability that has deepened India’s current energy squeeze in the wake of Trump’s war on Iran.

@LauraLoomer Honest question here- why do SO MANY Indians leave to come to U.S. to open liquor stores, gas stations, Subway’s, hotels? If India is that great why don’t they capitalize on capitalism there instead here?

Honestly, as someone who has traveled a lot, India is the best country I have ever traveled to. It’s incredible. I will have been here for 9 days when I leave, and there is still so much to see and do. My experience has been amazing and India is portrayed negatively in the media as a place Amercians should avoid, but I realize a lot of that is completely made up. The people, food, culture and hospitality culture are just incredible. I have felt safe and comfortable the entire time I have been here and India will truly be the next big super power. This country has incredible potential and you have to see it yourself to understand because the media only makes it out to be 3rd world. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Indian people are the nicest people I have ever met. I am very grateful for my time in India. I have enjoyed it so much and I hope I can come back every year. Next time I want to visit South India. I have tried to do as much as possible these last 9 days but there is still so much to see and do. All good things come to an end. I’ll be back (hopefully soon). I love India. My misconceptions have been corrected. I have nothing but nice things to say. 🇮🇳

Twenty years ago we invaded Iraq. The war killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans. It destroyed the oldest Christian populations in the world. It cost over $1 trillion, and turned Iraq into a satellite of Iran. It was an unforced disaster, and I pray that we learn its lessons.

Today is the anniversary of the Pulwama attack. Another year to remember that incompetent Army Generals and cops got away scot free for their abject failure. And some even got ill-deserved medals like UYSM and equivalent later on. Eventually they will be held accountable. There will be a day of reckoning for the blood on their hands.

@Ramandeep_Bajwa @nsgblackcats Given all the capabilities listed above …… this is unacceptable for a group carrying the NSG tag finishing outside top 20 anywhere. We should not start accepting mediocre results. This might be a peek of future trends. Folks should be held accountable who are at helm.

I don't think @nsgblackcats took these games seriously and obviously didn't send their best, operatives from their core group, whose identity is always kept hidden for obvious reasons. They don't participate in such childish competitions. They are only unleashed when everything and everyone else has failed and failure is not an option. They have to get the job done and they always do 100% of the time. These games don't show the real operational capabilities in real tactical situations like plane hijacking, hostage rescue or neutralizing a terror attack. No way Pakistan Punjab Police which finished higher is better than NSG, which is made up of battle hardened experienced special forces soldiers, the cream of @adgpi. When it comes to actual operations where the pressure to perform is many notches higher, NSG like a supercar -- which is very sluggish at low RPMs and low speeds but rev it higher its real potential and performance come to fore -- come into their own. "When going gets tough, the tough get going." This is what happened in these stupid kiddish games: "When going is easy, the tough get bored and lose interest and make silly mistakes."
K Singh@KSingh_1469

The shooting part is the most damning as accurate dynamic shooting should be their most basic and honed skill It’s a cliche but the top CT/HR units of the West fire 1000s of rounds a week each, what are NSG doing? Practicing parkour? Jumping through flames?
