Officers spoke with 47-year-old Cleavon White, who was acting erratically and paranoid. They decided to place him on a 72-hour mental health hold, but he refused. During the struggle to take him into custody, White grabbed an officer’s firearm and pulled the trigger, causing it to fire. Officer Josiah Duit then fired multiple shots, striking White. White’s wife and five children were present and huddled together in the opposite room.
