With Paul's brilliant image of this dress, a small detail regarding it- Last week I visited KP, and the staff member standing near this dress told me that in all the paintings depicting the Privy council meeting, Queen Victoria has been depicted wearing white

The only reason being she was a new queen and she wouldn't stand out if she wore black, so for the aesthetic senses of the portrait, the Queen is painted in a white gown

@messiecondo @MonarchyUK Just the way portraits on coins are, successive monarchs face opposite sides. You can notice king george v and King George vi facing the same way because Edward VIII is supposed to be in between 😅
