And now reliant on some crazy exception of having a quarter of one league in the expanding champions league to try and sneak in… This is either 2005 reborn or a failed season in anticipation. And I very much doubt the former.

To be 6th, regardless of the improvements of teams around you, having spent over 400m (gross spend is materially relevant here), having made flawed decisions with squad construction (CB backup, DM, RB, LW), still with a tactical creativity problem to solve months later…

It’s been over 2 months since the Forest defeat. This will continue to worsen & United / Chelsea were always likely to catch up in spite of their own improvements. And the transfers windows look worse with each passing result. Not sure Hughes & Edwards escape responsibility.

I was willing to forgive the last one because even though it was shambolic, it was still Man City, who shouldn’t be underestimated in any circumstance. Even if they win 3-2 now by some miracle, I’m done. Between Slot & Hughes, the wrong players were signed for the intended…

SA clubs do not need more fans. The local soccer fanbase is MASSIVE. Way bigger than rugby. They need better systems and thinking, smarter partnerships and a long-term view. The passion is already there. The business just hasn’t caught up yet. End of thread. Your opinion?

@malla_91 @fc_mossman @SimonBrundish I’ve been saying this to any who ask me. Trent was crucial systemically, the evidence is shown even when he played badly (United game). The plan to replace his “role” systemically is either flawed or poorly executed. Either way, that’s the gap

📊 Liverpool under Arne Slot + title good until Dec 2024, then became preposterously dominant until about Feb 2025, then xG differential fell consistently until Oct 2025 + on-pitch results lagged, eventually caught up, then November red patch was actually worse than underlying data suggests + current rolling 10 match point tally is on par with the xG differential results that have existed since the tail end of last season - about Europa League level

… I could go on. You can make it about Salah. Or maybe ask if one guy with the balls to say the unpopular thing & put his entire LFC legacy on the line, is either a sanctimonious a-hole, or trying to shine a light on something which needs a bit more than patience to solve.

…Isak (not being served & yes, criticize his effort & fitness, but 100m is a lot of money to spend on someone who you expect to somehow just “fit”), Wirtz (who has the added pressure of being the creative answer to the gap of Trent), Konate (who isn’t deserving to start)…

Regardless of whether you agree with it or not, Salah has the gravitas & profile that gets attention, & his choice to speak suggests that other attempts have been unsuccessful or likely perceived pointless (we don’t really know). But let’s not pretend he’s the only one who…

@tokolume That should have been signing number 1 or 2, is my point.

@SimonBrundish @TaintlessRed This is 99% of the problem, especially when taking the signings into consideration. The players don’t fit the plan, assuming the plan is indeed deliberate.

Slot is a tactical manager but idk if he knows how to Inspire. That's a different skillset Jürgen had in spades.

…system & the fallback plans are laughable at best. Whatever changed on the sideline between this season & last, it needs to change again. You can’t compete for top 4 like this, let alone a title.

So here’s to Rui Costa (whose footballing legacy is tarnished now, sadly), to prove me wrong. I suspect I’m not alone in the fear & even less alone in the hope that the next term shows progression, not the same & certainly not the regression that has persisted.

To have voted for this is not voting for a future. It’s not even voting for the same. The status quo is gradual regression. The team’s worsening competitiveness in the Champions League is evidence. Benfica’s ambition should be to be competitive at a minimum.

As usual, @BenficaPodcast keeping it classy with a sober & mature response to the election result. 👏 But I can’t help present my intransigence. The result is bizarre, confusing, incongruent with Benfica’s identity.
Benfica Podcast@BenficaPodcast

The majority voted to keep things as they are. Have to respect that, and it’s not a case of insulting intelligence or lack of common sense, it’s to respect the electoral process and the result. Just hope that in 4 years that majority is happy with their decision.
