Szobo should probably be converted into a RB, and then all we really need this summer is a midfielder who compliments Jones well in the double pivot. Build the midfield around him.

Curtis Jones is one of the most under-appreciated midfielders in Europe, full stop. All of his advanced progressive, pass accuracy, and on-ball value metrics like VAEP have been on-par with whoever pops into your head when you think of 'best current midfield maestro'. He's not without his limitations; but given the style of football Arne Slot wants to play, the mediocre performance of the main midfield two this season, Slot's over-reliance on them over the past two seasons from a minutes perspective, and just simply Jones' currently level... he should already be playing the minutes he wants/deserves. Pair him with an all-action, bull-in-a-china-shop 8 and you could sort the midfield for extremely cheap.

Why current 4231s don't work and what needs to be changed?
Current teams have both inside forwards and strikers #10 duo which congests the central areas. This can be avoided if they either play,
LB IF f9 IF RB
or a classic 442 or 4231 where the wingback who can dribble is the wide mid in that system. This could be the era for players like Neto Traore Frimpong Mcneil for that role as they can dribble outside to create width, and they can have more of the attacking liberty and less of the defensive responsibilities.

Havertz remains the most misunderstood forward in world football.
Havertz suffers from a false dichotomy … people reduce him to whether he delivers big moments, ignoring that he consistently performs in big occasions, and that misunderstanding is what leads to him being underrated but also incorrectly utilised.
If you’re building a game plan where he is the ‘killer’ then you’re misguided as he is never ever going to be a reliable finisher but that doesn’t mean he can’t score.
What he does give is world class link up play and pressing from the front and in the context of a cohesive unit where goals come from elsewhere ie imagine if he had a Mane and Salah either side of him, he wouldn’t be dunked down upon as he is now.
I think Arsenal biggest issue is seeing him as the problem when the recruitment to supplement him has been flawed. Where is the 20-30 goal a season winger to get in behind and be the goalscorer?
This is the equivalent of Liverpool putting a Firmino up front and expecting him to yield goals like Haaland despite his overall performance being good.

True, Pool literally doesn't need another RB, they can play Jones there and benefit from it.
Yes, the FB pairing of Frimpong and Kerkez may struggle to work as either of the players' strengths isn't passing like when Trent and Robbo did and that is also one the reasons for LFC's struggle this season and could affect next season too even if they somehow fit in Jones and Dom in the pivot or even Wharton in the middle, why?
Because Jones will mainly aid their buildup as he's the only player in the squad who likes to pass short and pass more which will help them control games as he will be acting as the extra midfielder down the right side which will also get Kerkez high up in the left as he's been used to sit deep which isn't his strength.
Something like,

The difference between Trent and Jones as a RB is strikingly polar as well. One is an expert in long passing and the other is an expert in short passing, but similarity can be two scouse talents showing their strengths for their local team and cementing their places in the XI as RBs and also redefining the RB position in 2 different ways would be a great script.

Liverpool Moneyballed Salah's replacement in Isak Wirtz and Frimpong but forgot to do it with Trent. It should have been Frimpong Wirtz AND Wharton for sure
Porro if it was a direct positional replacement but Wharton was the obvious choice in midfield as MacA or gravenberch wouldn't have been able to take the creative and passing burden which is evident so far this season and tbvh it is not an easy job that can be coached in 2 months, the other option was Stiller, who's ready right now but Wharton is English and younger.

People who don’t want Wharton are absolutely clueless. That PSG game didn’t highlight the lack of athleticism in midfield, it highlighted a lack of people with the talent and mentality to get their foot on the ball and successfully pick passes out.

It's an v strong squad overall even if it needs some reinforcements in summer. Slot has used it horrifically all season with the odd exception. Slot lost twice to Galatasaray, this dominant win shows that a different approach with same players how much superior we actually are.
